ABOUT THE ROLE

The CANDORA Society (CANDORA) is looking for dynamic, compassionate individuals to fill the following roles:

  • Career Counsellor – Personal Development Facilitator
  • Career Counsellor – Work Exposure Coordinator
  • Career Counsellor – Employment Readiness

Each role plays a crucial part in supporting participants by providing individualized career counselling and/or facilitating workshops focused on personal development, employment readiness, and work experience. If you are passionate about helping individuals overcome employment barriers and achieve their career goals, we want to hear from you!

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Participant Assessment and Planning

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify participants' employment readiness, skills, employment barriers, and goals.
  • Develop individualized action plans with clear, measurable steps toward job readiness and long-term success.
  • Regularly review and update action plans based on participant progress and changing needs.
  • Provide targeted referrals to training programs, certifications, and other resources to address barriers and support employment goals.

Employment Counselling and Goal Development

  • Offer one-on-one counselling to help participants establish realistic employment goals and career pathways.
  • Provide guidance on labour market trends, upskilling opportunities, and career development strategies.
  • Conduct regular check-ins to monitor participant progress, address challenges, and adjust plans as needed.

Workshop Facilitation

  • Deliver engaging, interactive workshops on life skills and/or employment topics.
  • Use learner-centered approaches to ensure workshops are engaging, inclusive, and responsive to participants’ needs.
  • Adapt materials and delivery methods to meet diverse participant needs, including newcomers and individuals with limited English proficiency.
  • Seek feedback to refine workshop content and delivery.

Collaboration and Participant Support

  • Partner with other team members to align workshop topics with participant needs.
  • Collaborate to ensure participants have required certifications or training for job placements.
  • Work closely with Community Resource Workers and other team members to address non-employment barriers such as childcare, transportation, and mental health.
  • Build partnerships with community organizations, employers, and training providers.
  • Represent CANDORA at job fairs and community events to promote the program and develop connections.

Work Exposure and Employer Engagement

  • Coordinate work exposure placements, ensuring they align with participant goals and skills.
  • Build and maintain relationships with employers to secure placements and provide ongoing support throughout the process.
  • Stay informed about labour market trends and employment opportunities.
  • Conduct follow-ups up to 90 days post-placement to ensure sustainable employment and provide ongoing support.

Administrative and Program Tracking

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of participant progress, assessments, and outcomes.
  • Track program expenses related to workshops, training, and participant supports.
  • Assist with reporting for funders, highlighting participant outcomes and program successes.

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS, AND COMPETENCIES

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in community-based social services or employment coaching.
  • Relevant training related to career development or career counselling/ coaching.
  • Background in Human Resources training and development, and any other relevant work experience.
  • Post-secondary education in Career Development, Education, Humanities, Community Development, or a related field. Equivalent education, training, and/or experience will also be considered.
  • Strong background in facilitating interactive, learner-centered adult education, focusing on creating engaging and participatory learning experiences.
  • Experience working with diverse communities, including newcomers, refugees, and individuals facing multiple employment barriers.

Skills and Disposition

  • Commitment to the vision, mission, values, and beliefs of CANDORA.
  • Knowledge of current community dynamics, including community resources and broader supports related to education and employment.
  • Strong understanding and commitment to motivational interviewing, flexible and relationship-based practices, and reflective skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication.
  • Knowledge of Trauma-Informed Care and intercultural experience with people of differing cultural backgrounds, high needs, and marginalized populations.
  • Proficiency in database management, Microsoft Office Suite, Google, and virtual platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible and tolerant in a changing work environment.
  • Strong administrative, organizational, leadership, interpersonal, and time management skills.
  • Fluency in additional languages is an asset.

Additional Requirements

  • Clear Police Information Check, including Vulnerable Sector, and Child and Youth Intervention Check (CYIM).
  • Applicants must have legal authorization to work in Canada.
  • Availability to work on-site, Monday to Friday.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends as required.

Employment Type:Permanent, full-time, up to 35 hours per week, dependent on program funding
