Job summary

S Sheridan College's Career-Integrated Learning division seeks a Career Consultant to provide career and employment coaching to students and graduates, helping clients navigate career journeys and explore employment pathways. You will deliver one-on-one coaching, workshops, webinars, class visits, and events to build readiness.

You will strengthen resumes, networking, interview prep, and career planning while collaborating with staff to design and deliver career education programming.

Qualifications

• 3-year degree or diploma in Business, Humanities, Adult Education, Human Resources, and/or Career Development Practitioner/Work Counsellor or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a business environment including progressive responsibility in career/employment development, human resources, coaching and mentoring, employment recruitment, job placement, training, and career/employment consultation.
• Related experience demonstrating understanding of barriers faced by job seekers; strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills.

Reporting to the Director, Career-Integrated Learning, the Career Consultant provides career and employment coaching to students and graduates, supporting clients to navigate their career journeys, explore a range of employment pathways and to ensure career readiness. Using career development theory, this role provides consultative career services through one-on-one coaching, workshops, webinars, class visits, group dropins, career chat sessions and at in-person events. These services support students across the Explore, Experience, and Connect phases of career development, building skills in resumes and cover letters, networking, professional online presence, interview preparation, and career planning. The role includes assessing relevant resources, strengthening job-readiness, and facilitating referrals where appropriate. Ongoing collaboration with staff is essential to collaboratively designing and delivering strategic career and employment education programming and to prepare students for success in their careers.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Career and Employment Consulting;
  • Delivering one-on-one career/employment support to Sheridan students and graduates as it relates to:
    • Personal marketing tools (cover letters, resumes, and portfolios)
    • Job search strategies
    • Employment and career management strategies
    • Labour market research
    • Interview skills
    • Negotiation
    • Career planning
    • Leveraging co-curricular recognition and utilizing the career catalyst portfolio
    • Referrals to other departments/service experts as needed
  • Clientele receiving these services are treated uniquely, in that services are tailored to their individual needs
• Facilitation and Presentation;
  • In collaboration with the C-IL team, developing, maintaining, and delivering employment related programming in workshops, class visits, webinars, group dropins, career chats and events to prepare students for up-coming networking or career fairs, and/or for general job search activities or career planning skills by:
    • Determining structure and content of workshop
    • Assessing and tailoring workshop content and delivery methods in order to meet needs of particular audiences;
• Peer Mentor and Co-op Intern Student Support
  • Providing leadership to the student Career Centre Peer Mentors and/or Co-op Interns
• Faculty and staff relationship building and promotion of career services, career education tools and career curriculum;
• Ensuring faculty, students, and alumni have access to modernized employment and career education materials and tools;
• Performing other related duties as assigned.

The Successful Candidate Will Also Meet The Following Requirements

• 3-year degree or diploma in Business, Humanities, Adult Education, Human Resources, and/or Career Development Practitioner/Work Counsellor or related field;
