Job summary

Centre de services scolaire Marguerite-Bourgeoys is seeking a Career Advisor to support students in understanding themselves and their paths to educational and professional choices. You will assess students’ psychological functioning, personal resources, and environmental factors, and guide them in developing coping strategies and a life plan.

Qualifications

  • Member of the Order of Career Advisors (OCCOQ).
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Manage multiple files with a steady pace.
  • Demonstrate empathy and active listening.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge of CSSMB resources is an asset.
  • Knowledge of the education network is an asset.
  • Proof of French test success within three months of hiring.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate students in individual or group meetings on interests, aptitudes, abilities and needs.
  • Conduct counseling interviews to help students clarify situations and goals.
  • Support students in overcoming training and social/professional integration difficulties.
  • Inform and advise parents on educational and professional guidance.
  • Collaborate with the school team to identify students facing difficulties.
  • Plan and lead information activities about training programs and the job market.
  • Collaborate with management, teachers, and other professionals.
  • Act as a resource person for COSP implementation.
  • Analyze student files to guide them in the school system.
  • Issue a classification recommendation for new student integratioin.

Job description

Being a career advisor means supporting students in understanding themselves and their paths in order to help them make informed and coherent educational and professional choices.

On a daily basis, you assess the psychological functioning, personal resources, and environmental factors of young and adult students. You accompany and support them in developing coping strategies and in their decision-making, promoting their autonomy and their ability to build a life project aligned with their individual characteristics and their environment, throughout their educational journey.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluate students during individual or group meetings regarding their interests, aptitudes, abilities, personality, work experiences, and personal needs;
  • Conduct individual or group counseling interviews to encourage the student to question themselves and build a comprehensive self-image, explore and clarify their situation, and establish personal and professional goals;
  • Support students in finding ways to overcome the difficulties inherent in achieving their training project as well as their social and professional integration;
  • Inform and advise parents on the means to support their child regarding their educational and professional orientation;
  • Contribute to the identification of students facing difficulties through lists and collaboration with team members of the school team, with a view to prevention and intervention;
  • Plan, organize, and lead school and professional information activities to present the requirements of training programs, the nature of professions, the situation and evolution of the job market;
  • Collaborate with management, teachers, and professionals;
  • Act as a resource person for the implementation of COSP;
  • Analyze various documents that are part of the student file to properly guide them in the school system;
  • Issue a classification recommendation upon the integration of a new student.
Requirements
  • Be a member of the Order of Career Advisors (OCCOQ);
  • Enjoy working within a multidisciplinary team;
  • Be able to maintain a steady pace and work on multiple files at once;
  • Demonstrate empathy and active listening;
  • Have very good communication skills;
  • Possess a good knowledge of institutional and community resources in the CSSMB territory (an asset);
  • Have a good knowledge of the education network (an asset);
  • Proof of success in the French test SEL or CÉFRANC or TECFÉE or the CSSMB enhanced French exam within three months of hiring at the latest;
