Job summary

Prospect is seeking a dedicated career development professional to provide pre-employment support, resume/cover letter development, and targeted job-search assistance. You will analyze labor market trends, work with clients from diverse backgrounds, and partner with Employer Liaisons to connect candidates with opportunities.

Responsibilities include conducting workshops, updating CRM records, and delivering tailored career guidance.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years’ experience in career development.
  • A Career Development professional designation is a strong asset.
  • 3+ years’ client relations with diverse demographics.
  • 3+ years’ pre-employment and essential skill development expertise.
  • Ability to create analytical reports and action plans.

Job description

What will you do?
  • Provides pre-employment support such as resume/cover letter development/targeting, assistance in the application process and interview preparation for clients on a case-by-case basis
  • Utilizes assessment tools when needed; assists clients in analyzing and synthesizing career exploration information
  • Work in partnership with clients from a variety of demographics to identify job targets
  • Work in close partnership with the Employer Liaisons advising about client job targets and trends, puts candidates forward to opportunities provided by the Employer Liaison team
Resource Coordination
  • Continually conducts environmental scanning: labour market, corporations, news, and economic trends, incorporating findings and best practices into program/content
  • Supports Job Club and/or facilitation of workshops based on client needs and trends
  • Communicates current information to applicable team members on labour market and career development trends and best practices
  • Tracks caseloads, workshops, and assessment tools and maintains client information in files, records, stats, and reports
  • Books ongoing career advising meetings
General
  • Diligently works to ensure thorough understanding of all Prospect’s programs
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date information in the CRM database and completes monthly client updates on job search progress, service delivery, and expected next steps for accurate reporting, as required
  • Monitors client goals and completion of action or service plans; communicates with other staff as necessary
  • Acts as central point of contact and subject matter expert for clients, support networks, referral sources, and internal team members
  • Supports Employment Resource Centre coverage as required
Community Relations
  • Remains active within a network that includes other career development/career transition professionals, recruiters, workforce planners, learning and development/training specialists, post‑secondary program advisors, and HR professionals to stay current on employment trends and activities, best practices and professional development opportunities
What does it take to do this job?
  • Some post‑secondary education in career advising or other equivalent program; 3+ years’ experience in a similar role directly related to career development. A Career Development professional designation is a strong asset.
  • 3+ years’ client relations with direct experience relating with a broad demographic
  • 3+ years’ of pre‑employment and essential skill development expertise, including:
    • developed job search techniques that involve the ability to tap into the hidden job market;
    • resume and cover letter development;
    • interviewing skills including knowing the various techniques used and the ability to prep clients
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and presentation software; advanced proficiency with the internet, online, and social media platforms
  • Knowledge of and experience using career exploration tools and websites, with the ability to assist clients in synthesizing and analyzing information to develop realistic action plans and job targets
  • Experience leading/facilitating different formats of meetings, workshops and presentations to various audiences of internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to create analytical reports, develop and utilize spreadsheets, conduct needs and gap analyses, collect and analyze stats, and act on results from findings
Asset
  • Exposure to adult education principles gained through experiences in corporate training, learning development or equivalent experiences developed from content development presentation/facilitation.
  • Knowledge/experience/exposure/education working with varying populations (military, youth, disability, mental health)
