Job summary

Talantir is seeking a Cook for permanent placement in a long-term care setting in Ontario. The role involves planning menus, portioning food, and preparing meals for residents with dietary needs, under supervision of a dietitian or chef.

The position requires a Cook Trade Certification and Food Safety Certificate, with 1–2 years of related experience. The work environment includes fast-paced, 35–44 hours per week and free parking on-site.

Qualifications

• Cook Trade Certification and Food Safety Certificate required.
• Experience in a kitchen environment preferred.
• Ability to plan menus and portion sizes and estimate food requirements.

Responsibilities

• Determine the size of food portions and costs.
• Plan menus and estimate food requirements for their realization.
• Requisition food and kitchen supplies.
• Prepare and cook complete meals or individual dishes and foods.
• Prepare dishes for customers with food allergies or intolerances.
• Prepare and cook special meals for patients as instructed by dietitian or chef.
• Inspect kitchens and food service areas.
• Train staff in preparation, cooking and handling of food.
• Order supplies and equipment.
• Supervise kitchen staff and helpers.
• Maintain inventory and records of food, supplies and equipment.
• Clean kitchen and work areas.
• Manage kitchen operations.
