Job summary

Extendicare is seeking a professional Cook to prepare and deliver meals for residents, guests, and staff within a long-term care setting in Canada.

You will review menus, follow standardized recipes, and ensure food safety and timely service. A Food Handler's Certificate is required; Red Seal is preferred. Experience in large-scale healthcare kitchens and knowledge of therapeutic diets are essential.

Qualifications

• Must possess a Food Handler's Certificate.
• Red Seal Certificate preferred.
• Experience in large quantity food preparation, preferably in a healthcare or retirement setting.
• Knowledge of Provincial Food Premises Regulation and Canada's Food Guide to Healthy Eating.
• Knowledge of and experience with special and therapeutic diets.
• Must be physically able to lift and transfer heavy items and stand for long periods.
• Proficiency in a second language is considered an asset.
• Must provide or be willing to obtain Vulnerable Sector Check (Criminal Background Check).

Responsibilities

• Prepare and deliver foods for residents, guests and employees.
• Review menus and production sheets; prepare and serve meals attractively.
• Ensure proper food handling techniques.
• Complete daily temperature audits for fridges, freezers and storerooms.
• Prepare and serve foods for therapeutic diets.
• Follow production charts and recipes within budget.
• Comply with regulations and department policies.
• Participate in staff meetings and training.
