Job summary

Nova Scotia Health Authority seeks a Cardiac Sonographer to perform echocardiography exams, obtain diagnostic recordings, and prepare findings for review. Role involves after-hours call and travel across NSHA sites, with rotation to multiple clinics and hospitals.

Ideal candidates have 1+ year experience, NSCMIRTP licensure, and BLS, plus familiarity with specialist equipment. Permanent full-time position with comprehensive benefits and pension.

Qualifications

• Must be a graduate of an accredited School of Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound.
• NSCMIRTP licensure is required.
• Current BLS certification is required.
• Minimum of one year clinical experience preferred.
• Experience in a tertiary care setting is an asset.
• Experience with Adult Congenital Heart Disease, TEE, Dobutamine Stress Echo, Exercise Stress Echo, and Research Echo preferred.
• Experience with Philips Epiq and IntelliSpace Workstations an asset; GE Vivid E95 also an asset.
• Competencies in other languages are an asset, French preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform echocardiography exams and obtain diagnostic recordings.
• Prepare findings summaries after examinations for Echocardiologist review.
• Maintain patient files and PACS records; ensure accurate data entry.

About the Opportunity

Echocardiography is the use of highly sophisticated ultrasound technology for the evaluation of cardiac anatomy, function and hemodynamic. The Cardiac Sonographer utilizes equipment using comprehensive specialized education and accepted protocols to obtain diagnostic recordings of cardiac ultrasound images and doppler hemodynamic data with indirect supervision from the cardiac physician. The Cardiac Sonographer evaluates and records pathological findings, obtains measurements and calculations, then prepares a summary of the findings which is later reviewed by the Echocardiologist for final reporting. The Cardiac Sonographer discusses exams with the Echocardiologist using PACS and recorded information; maintains accurate patient files; records appropriate and timely information in the computer; maintains a professional attitude; and practices good patient care at all times. Specialized sonography skills, clinical knowledge and experience are necessary for providing advanced practice service to the adult congenital population, tertiary and surgical programs, research programs and the clinical training for residents and student sonographers. Cardiac Sonography staff rotate between five Nova Scotia Health Authority clinical sites on a weekly basis. Portable echocardiograms are provided for patient care units as needed. Cardiac Sonographers provide after hour call back service. The Cardiac Sonographer assists the Echocardiologist during transesophageal, dobutamine stress echo, exercise stress echo and contrast studies.

About You

• Must be a graduate of an accredited School of Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound
• Nova Scotia College of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Professionals (NSCMIRTP) licensure
• Current BLS certification
• Minimum of one year clinical experience preferred
• Experience in a tertiary care setting an asset
• Experience in Adult Congenital Heart Disease, TEE, Dobutamine Stress Echo, Exercise Stress Echo, and Research Echo preferred
• Experience with Philips Epiq and IntelliSpace Workstations an asset
• Experience with General Electric Vivid E95 an asset
• Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours

• Permanent full-time position; 75 hours biweekly
• On-call in a rotation for after hours and weekend coverage
• Travel to various sites will be required (DGH, Cobequid, Mumford Road, VG or the Halifax Infirmary (rotation))

Compensation and Benefits

$43.56 - $54.45 hourly
