Job summary

Randstad Canada represents a client leader in sustainable marine transportation seeking a Dry Bulk Captain to join their tanker operations. The Captain serves as the designated corporate representative aboard the vessel, tasked with supporting operational success, protecting business interests, and upholding safety and environmental standards.

This permanent, full-time role offers leadership responsibilities, direct safety authority, and a duty to ensure compliance with ISM and international

Qualifications

  • Master Mariner Certificate or TC-recognised equivalent.
  • Valid Transport Canada Marine Medical.
  • GOC–GMDSS certification as applicable.
  • STCW Basic Safety, Advanced Fire Fighting, Survival Craft.
  • Bridge Resource Management certification.
  • ECDIS training; TRANSAS experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Act as primary management representative aboard the vessel.
  • Ensure crew, contractors, vessel operations and cargo safety.
  • Enforce environmental protection protocols and safety decisions.
  • Maintain compliance with ISM, ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001.
  • Operate in accordance with maritime regulations and company policies.

Our client is a leader in sustainable marine transportation dedicated to delivering bulk liquid cargo across key shipping routes that is seeking a qualified and safety-oriented Dry Bulk Captain to join their tanker operations. Our client recognizes that their maritime crew is the backbone of their operations and the driving force behind their ongoing industry leadership. The Captain acts as the designated corporate representative aboard the vessel, charged with supporting operational success, protecting business interests, and maintaining the highest standard of safety and environmental compliance.

Responsibilities
  • Act as the primary management representative aboard the vessel to protect the owner’s commercial interests.
  • Ensure the overall safety of the crew, onboard contractors, vessel operations, and cargo.
  • Enforce environmental protection protocols and exercise overriding authority on safety and pollution prevention decisions.
  • Perform duties in full compliance with maritime shipping regulations, national labour codes, and company policies.
  • Maintain compliance with ISM Code requirements as well as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 standards.
Qualifications
  • Master Mariner Certificate of Competency (preferred) or Master, Near Coastal Certificate issued by Transport Canada.
  • Valid Transport Canada Marine Medical. General Operator’s License (GOC – GMDSS).
  • Pilotage Certificate within designated pilotage regions (preferred).
  • STCW Certificates of Proficiency: Basic Safety, Advanced Fire Fighting, and Survival Craft/Rescue Boats (other than Fast Rescue Boats).
  • Ship Security Officer Certification.
  • Bridge Resource Management Certification.
  • ECDIS training, with TRANSAS system proficiency (preferred).
  • Marine Medical Care Certification (preferred).
