Job summary

Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) is seeking a Student Analyst in Toronto for the Alternate Solutions Group (ASG). The role supports development of market-leading FX and cross-border payment solutions within a FinTech-like, governance-driven bank environment.

You will work on product development, business strategy, and client engagement across clients including financial institutions and corporations. This program runs January–April 2027 with on-site work and a 4-month term.

  • Strong analytical skills and academic performance.
  • Experience with financial markets or FinTech is a plus.

What you'll be doing

Join the Alternate Solutions Group (ASG) as a Student Analyst and make a real difference for our clients. Founded in 2013, ASG is an innovative team within the Payments division of CIBC Capital Markets, focused on developing technology-driven solutions across foreign exchange, payments, and money movement. We combine the entrepreneurial mindset and agility of a FinTech with the scale, expertise, and governance of a leading global financial institution. You will be part of a team focused on developing market-leading foreign exchange and cross-border payment solutions that help clients move money globally, efficiently, and securely. Working alongside experienced professionals, you will support product development, business strategy, and client engagement initiatives across a diverse client base, including financial institutions, corporations, public sector organizations, and CIBC's retail banking network. You will be placed in either the Sales & Distribution team or the Product team, based on business needs and your skills and interests. In Sales, you will focus on new client acquisition, market analysis, and business growth. In Product, you will focus on product development, performance analysis, project execution, and improving ASG’s product capabilities. Throughout your term, you will work closely with stakeholders across Capital Markets, Payments, Technology, and Operations, while contributing to meaningful projects that support ASG's strategic growth objectives. The expected annualized base salary for this role is $100,000 The base salary is determined by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s skills, experience, and job-related knowledge, as well as geographic location and specific business needs.

Important information

You are enrolled in an undergraduate degree in Commerce, Economics, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) or related program at the time of the internship, with a graduation date no earlier than August 2027. Candidates with a technical undergraduate degree (e.g., Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, etc.) are highly valued, as well as those with strong analytical skills and relevant experience from non-STEM backgrounds. Location: Toronto. Duration of Work Term: 4 months (January 2027 – April 2027).

How you'll succeed
  • Passion for financial markets – Demonstrate strong technical, quantitative, and analytical skills, with keen interest in the financial markets and proven record of academic success, teamwork and extracurricular involvement.
  • Communication – Partner with your team to make an impact by applying a technical skillset to help generate insights and/or optimize processes. Showcase highly effective written, oral and presentation skills with an ability to explain complex concepts in a simplified way.
  • Business analysis - Formulate solution scope and objectives to meet the business need and validate requirements, testing, training and implementation of applications.
  • Project management – Ensure execution of project control procedures and policies within a number of unrelated large projects.
  • Reporting, analytics and research - Analyze business opportunities and present recommendations to address through analysis, reporting and research.
Who you are

You have demonstrated interest in Capital Markets. You’ve built a strong knowledge of Capital Markets, FinTech and the financial services industries which allows you to analyze complex issues and identify & develop innovative opportunities, with a focus on FX & payments. You give meaning to data. You enjoy investigating complex problems and making sense of information. You're confident in your ability to communicate detailed information in an impactful way. You're digitally savvy. You are proficient in MS-office suite of tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.) and are able to use them for financial modeling, presentations and technical project documentation. You're passionate about staying up-to-date with emerging technologies. Experience with Salesforce, Python, Power BI, and courses in Artificial Intelligence are preferred. You're passionate about people. You find meaning in relationships and surround yourself with a diverse network of partners. You build trust through respect and authenticity.
