Qualifications

• Fluency in Cantonese; strong English for staff collaboration.
• Experience in North American Chinese church settings, pastoral care and shepherding.

Responsibilities

• Shepherd Cantonese-speaking congregation and oversee care for elders, families and individuals.
• Provide pastoral care and spiritual nourishment to Cantonese congregation seniors.
• Guide discipleship and support language- and generational-specific fellowship needs.
• Preach and deliver weekly Cantonese sermons; oversee Cantonese Sunday School teachers.
• Collaborate with English Ministry to maintain unity and plan joint services and outreach.
• Participate in regular staff meetings and planning to align spiritual and administrative work.

Calvary Logos Baptist Church (CLBC) is seeking a full-time Cantonese Pastor for our Cantonese-speaking congregation.

Overview of Church and Community

As a small, family-oriented church, we are looking for a relational shepherd to build upon the foundation laid by our retiring pastor. The successful candidate will be a collaborative leader who works closely with our English Ministry to foster a unified, multi-generational church body.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

• Spiritual Maturity: A deep, personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a life that reflects the biblical qualifications for leadership (1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9).
• Education: A minimum of a Master of Divinity (M. DIv.) from an accredited seminary, or equivalent
• Language: Fluency in Cantonese (spoken and written). Strong proficiency in English is required for effective collaboration with the English ministry and staff.
• Experience: Experience in a North American Chinese church setting is highly valued, particularly in roles involving pastoral care and shepherding.

Denominational Affiliation

This position requires alignment with Baptist faith and practice. The candidate must be accredited by, or willing to seek accreditation with, the Canadian Baptists of Ontario and Quebec (CBOQ).

Role and Responsibilities

• Multi-Generational Care: Actively shepherd elders, families, and individuals through regular visitation, prayer, and counseling.
• Elder Care: Provide dedicated support, pastoral care, and spiritual nourishment to the senior members of our Cantonese congregation.
• Discipleship: Guide spiritual leadership and support the unique needs of fellowships and small groups within a Canadian-Chinese context.

Word, Worship & Teaching

• Preaching: Prepare and deliver weekly Cantonese sermons that are biblically centered and applicable to daily life.
• Sunday School: Oversee Cantonese Sunday School classes and support Sunday School teachers, fostering deep biblical literacy across the congregation.

Inter-Congregational Collaboration

• One Church Vision: Work in close partnership with the English Pastor to ensure the Cantonese and English congregations remain a cohesive "church family."
• Joint Initiatives: Coordinate combined worship services, holidays, and community outreach events that bridge language and generational gaps.
• Staff Unity: Participate in regular staff meetings and collaborative planning sessions to maintain administrative and spiritual alignment.
