Job summary

First Baptist Church Delhi, affiliated with Canadian Baptists of Ontario and Quebec, is seeking a pastor to lead preaching, vision, and discipleship. The role emphasizes teaching scripture faithfully, equipping others, and engaging families and the wider community.

Qualifications include ordination or willingness to pursue accreditation, Master of Divinity preferred, and legal work status in Canada. Reports to the Church Deacon Board and collaborates with volunteers.

Qualifications

• Master of Divinity/Theology from a recognized theological institution is preferred.
• Ordination is preferred or acceptable from Baptist denomination with credentials.
• Must be legally authorized to work in Canada (work permit support not available).

Responsibilities

• Provide biblically faithful preaching and teaching that inspires spiritual growth and discipleship.
• Communicate Scripture with clarity and relevance to everyday life.
• Lead as primary preacher while equipping others to teach within the church.
• Establish short- and long-term visions for the church with ministry volunteers and members.
• Foster a culture of mission and involvement in discipleship initiatives for all ages.
• Provide pastoral care, spiritual support, and maintain healthy ministry boundaries.
• Develop ministry teams, mentor leaders, and collaborate with Deacon Board.
• Ensure ministry priorities align with church mission and values.

Job description

First Baptist Church Delhi is affiliated with the Canadian Baptists of Ontario and Quebec and Canadian Baptist Ministries. Compensation will be commensurate with education and experience and will be in alignment with Canadian Baptists of Ontario and Quebec guidelines. Benefits include enrollment in Canadian Baptists benefits program, including health, dental, and wellness benefits, and enrollment in our pension plan after 3 months of probationary period with a 6% match on contributions, starting 20 days' Vacation/year. Overview of Church and Community

Delhi Ontario is located is beautiful Norfolk County. First Baptist Delhi is a small, historic church with a faithful congregation of about 30 in weekly attendance and a financially sound ministry that is looking to grow and impact a broader area in our community. Services are streamed though Zoom to congregants unable to attend in person, extending the church’s reach beyond its physical gathering.

A collaborative volunteer team works to foster ministries that serve children, families, adults, and seniors throughout the congregation.

Those within First Baptist Church Delhi are equipped to minister to those in our community, and we will faithfully reflect our Articles of Faith.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

The successful candidate will be anordained minister recognized by the Baptist Convention of Ontario and Quebec, or anotherChristian denomination /Baptist Convention of another country,whose ordination standards are acceptable to the Credentials Committee of Canadian Baptists of Ontario and Quebec. The candidatewill agree to the First Baptist Church Delhi articles of faith, and core values.

Master of Divinity/Theology from a recognized theological institution is preferred.

Must be legally authorized to work in Canada. First Baptist Church Delhi is not in the position to support a work permit process for any applicant outside of Canada.

Role and Responsibilities

Preaching and Teaching

• Provide biblically faithful, scripture-centered preaching and teaching that inspires spiritual growth and practical discipleship.
• Communicate Scripture with clarity and relevance and connecting to everyday life.
• Serve as the primary preacher while equipping others to teach within the life of the church.

Vision and Leadership

• Working with existing ministry volunteers, leadership, and church members the lead pastor prayerfully establishes short and long-term visions for the church.
• Foster a culture of mission throughout the church.

Discipleship and Spiritual Formation

• Equip and empower individuals to grow as followers of Christ and to serve according to their gifts.
• Support and strengthen pathways for faith formation, leadership development, and ministry engagement.
• Promote discipleship initiatives that nurture spiritual growth at every life stage, from children and youth to adults and seniors.

Family and Community Engagement

• Provide leadership in reaching, welcoming, and integrating new attendees, with a particular focus on young families.
• Cultivate a culture that encourages meaningful relationships, and active participation.
• Lead efforts to retain visitors and help them become fully engaged members of the church community.

Pastoral Care

• Along with the Deacons offer compassionate pastoral care and spiritual support during times of crisis, transition, and need.
• Understand the value and limits of pastoral care, providing appropriate guidance.
• Maintain healthy ministry boundaries while remaining caring, accessible, and pastorally present.

Team Development and Collaboration

• Collaborate with ministry volunteers and church leaders to advance the church’s mission and ministries.
• Delegate responsibilities effectively, empowering others to lead and serve in meaningful ways.
• Mentor, encourage, and equip ministry leaders and other volunteers for effective service.

Deacon Board Relations

• Work closely with the Deacons to provide strategic direction, and organizational oversight.
• Support the Deacon Board in decision-making processes through prayer, collaboration, and clear communication.
• Ensure ministry priorities align with the church’s mission, values, and strategic objectives.

Preferred Skills

Skills and Qualifications

The successful candidate will be passionate about pastoral ministry, deeply committed to Jesus Christ, and able to lead and equip the congregation in fulfilling its mission.

• Accreditation in good standing with CBOQ is preferred. Candidates who are not currently accredited must be eligible and willing to pursue accreditation and maintain good standing as a condition of continuing in the position.
• A mature and growing Christian faith, characterized by spiritual integrity, humility, and a commitment to biblical truth.
• Demonstrated ability to provide strong, Scripture-based preaching and teaching that is engaging, relevant, and inspiring.
• Leadership experience within a church setting, with the ability to guide change, strengthen congregational unity and articulate a clear vison is preferred.
• Experience working within a team ministry environment, valuing collaboration, shared leadership, and the development of volunteers.
• Excellent communication skills in English, both in-person and through digital platforms, with the ability to connect effectively with people of diverse ages and backgrounds.
• First Baptist Church Delhi is a historic church with deep roots in the community.
