Job summary

Apollo Mission Critical Engineering seeks Data Center Electrical Commissioning Engineers (CxEs) to commission electrical systems in data centers, ensuring top performance, reliability, and safety. The role requires attention to detail, cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to work under pressure across multiple client locations.

The position is onsite with travel to client sites (Montréal, QC; Toronto, ON; Vancouver, BC), and may involve nights or weekends.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, related field or equivalent professional experience.
  • Proven experience in commissioning, designing, or constructing electrical systems, especially in data centers or mission-critical environments.
  • Extensive knowledge of electricity systems, medium-to-low voltage electrical distribution systems, power generation systems, UPS systems and control systems.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and clients.
  • Ability to travel to different data center locations as needed.
  • Skilled in using commissioning software and tools, including MS Office Suite; Procore and CxAlloy proficiency for Mid-Level and Experienced-Level candidates.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct commissioning activities for electrical and EPMS/BMS systems in data centers.
  • Create and implement detailed commissioning plans, procedures, and checklists for Level 2, Level 3, Level 4, and Level 5 systems.
  • Review and evaluate design documents, submittals, and equipment specifications.
  • Conduct site inspections, functional performance tests, and system verifications.
  • Witness testing of all equipment during commissioning and validate sequence of operations.
  • Work closely with project teams, including contractors, engineers, and data center operators, to maintain schedule.
  • Diagnose and resolve system performance, reliability, and safety issues.
  • Document results/findings and generate comprehensive commissioning reports.
  • Maintain open and current communication with the client about the status of the project.
  • Provide training and support to data center staff on system operation and maintenance.
  • Ensure adherence to industry standards, codes, and regulations.
  • Attend project meetings and offer technical expertise.

Job Description

We are seeking skilled and motivated professionals of all experience levels to join our team as Data Center Electrical Commissioning Engineers (CxEs). The Electrical CxE will commission electrical systems in data centers, ensuring they meet top performance and reliability standards. This role requires a deep understanding of mission-critical environments, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively under pressure.

Activities will include but are not limited to testing and/or validation of transformers, electrical switchgear, Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) units, Static Transfer Switch (STS) units, Power Distribution Units (PDU), electrical distribution equipment, Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), and Building Management and Automation Systems (BMS). This role involves supporting data center construction/commissioning activities, so working hours may include nights and/or weekends.

This is an onsite, client-facing role that may require approximately 90% or more travel to various client locations.

  • Extensive knowledge of electricity systems, medium-to-low voltage electrical distribution systems, power generation systems, UPS systems and control systems.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and clients.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents, specifications and engineering design drawings.
  • Ability to read and operate electrical test equipment.
  • Skilled in using commissioning software and tools, including MS Office Suite; Mid-Level and Experienced-Level candidates should also be proficient with Procore and CxAlloy.
  • Ability to travel to different data center locations as needed.
Experience Levels
  • Entry-Level: 0-1 years of experience in commissioning or a related field, with a focus on mission-critical facilities.
  • Mid-Level: 2-5 years of experience with demonstrated project management capabilities and a solid understanding of data center systems.
  • Experienced-Level: 6+ years of experience, with extensive knowledge of complex mission-critical systems and leadership experience.
