Job summary

Calgary French & International School (CFIS) is seeking a part-time Campus Operations & Facilities Assistant to maintain a safe and welcoming campus for students, staff, families, and visitors. The successful candidate will have a high school diploma, First Aid certification, and relevant experience in facilities or public-facing roles.

Responsibilities

  • Promote a safe and secure campus environment for students, staff, families, and visitors.
  • Conduct regular security patrols of the building and grounds.
  • Open, secure and monitor school facilities as required.
  • Respond to safety, security and emergency situations.
  • Coordinate traffic flow during peak dismissal times and school events.
  • Set up furniture and event requirements and provide operational support during events.
  • Perform daily campus walkthroughs to ensure facilities remain safe and operational.

CFIS is seeking an energetic, professional, and service-oriented individual for an assistant position to complement our Campus Operations & Facilities Departments.

Position Summary:

The Campus Operations & Facilities Assistant supports the daily operation of the school by ensuring a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for students, staff, families, and visitors.

This highly visible role serves as one of the primary operational contacts during community rentals and auxiliary programs, as well as supporting campus safety, traffic management, special events, and facility operations. The successful candidate enjoys working with people, demonstrates sound judgement, and takes pride in providing exceptional service while contributing to the smooth operation of the school.

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Safety & Security

  • Promote a safe and secure campus environment for students, staff, families, and visitors.
  • Conduct regular security patrols of the building and grounds.
  • Open, secure, and monitor school facilities as required.
  • Respond appropriately to safety, security, and emergency situations.
  • Monitor visitor access and support school access control procedures.
  • Identify hazards and coordinate timely corrective action with the Director of Business Services or Associate Director: Facilities and Health & Safety, as appropriate.
  • Provide a visible and approachable presence throughout the campus to promote safety, security, and positive interactions with students, staff, families, and visitors.

Traffic Control

  • Assist with student pick-up traffic to ensure safe and efficient vehicle and pedestrian movement.
  • Direct traffic during peak dismissal times.
  • Monitor parking lots for safety and compliance.
  • Coordinate traffic flow during school events and special activities.
  • Support emergency dismissal procedures when required.

Event & Community Support

  • Ensure renters are using space and equipment in an appropriate manner.
  • Prepare facilities for school events, performances, meetings, athletic competitions, and community rentals.
  • Set up furniture, staging, signage, and other event requirements.
  • Provide operational support during evening and weekend events as required.
  • Ensure facilities are returned to operational readiness following events.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty, staff, volunteers, and external users to deliver successful events.

Campus Operations

  • Respond promptly to operational requests from staff while maintaining a positive, solutions-focused approach.
  • Perform daily campus walkthroughs to ensure facilities remain clean, safe, and operational.
  • Complete minor maintenance repairs and preventative maintenance within scope of training.
  • Identify facility deficiencies and submit maintenance requests.
  • Assist community renters while ensuring compliance with school procedures.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Experience in facilities operations, campus operations, security, hospitality, or a related field is considered an asset.
  • Experience working in a school, recreation, hospitality, customer service, or other public-facing environment is preferred.

Hours of Work

The regular schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, generally3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., although flexibility is required to support school events, performances, rentals, and operational needs.

Occasional weekend work may be required. During the summer months, the successful candidate may transition to daytime hours to support campus projects and auxiliary programming.

The successful candidate will need to provide an updated Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening prior to commencing work.

Compensation

Salary Range: $34,500 to $39,000 depending on experience and relevant skills.

This position offers:

  • Comprehensive employee group benefits and the RSP (Retirement Saving Plan) benefit.
  • Two (2) weeks off in December when the school is closed, plus three (3) weeks of paid vacation.
