Job description

Cabinetry Manager

For more than 44 years, Ackard Contractors has built a reputation as one of Edmonton’s established, award-winning residential renovation companies. Behind every beautifully finished project is a team of skilled people who care about quality, communication, and getting the details right.

We’re looking for an experienced Cabinetry Manager to lead our Cabinetry Department from production planning through installation. This is an opportunity to take ownership of a talented department, strengthen the connection between the cabinet shop and field, and help shape how custom cabinetry is planned, produced, installed, and continuously improved.

If you’re an experienced cabinetry professional who can see the big picture, anticipate what’s coming, and lead people with clarity and accountability, we’d love to hear from you.

What You’ll Do

As Ackard’s Cabinetry Manager, you’ll be accountable for the Cabinetry Department’s overall performance, including safety, quality, scheduling, labour and material efficiency, equipment, financial results, and project outcomes.

You’ll lead through the Cabinetry Lead Hand and Cabinetry Installation Lead Hand, who oversee day-to-day shop and field execution. Your role will be to establish clear expectations, remove obstacles, coordinate resources, and ensure the department delivers high-quality work safely, efficiently, and on schedule.

Department Leadership and Scheduling
  • Build and maintain a forward-looking production and installation schedule.
  • Anticipate capacity needs, dependencies, potential obstacles, and schedule risks.
  • Coordinate staffing, materials, site readiness, and shop-to-field handoffs with project stakeholders.
  • Hold weekly production meetings to review completed work, lessons learned, upcoming priorities, responsibilities, and potential concerns.
  • Ensure the department meets its commitments for safety, quality, schedule, labour, materials, and project outcomes.
Communication and Project Coordination
  • Maintain regular communication with both Lead Hands to review progress, identify obstacles, and confirm next steps.
  • Provide proactive updates to clients, designers, Site Supervisors, project leaders, and department staff regarding timing, status, changes, and decisions.
  • Monitor installation progress, communicate with clients, and document commitments and follow-up in Buildertrend.
  • Escalate damage, deficiencies, schedule risks, and scope concerns promptly.
  • Review department Buildertrend records for completeness and accuracy.
Financial and Operational Oversight
  • Review estimated versus actual labour, materials, schedules, and rework and address recurring concerns.
  • Support accurate job costing and billing through timely completion information, documented changes, and approved timecards.
  • Oversee inventory, purchasing controls, material availability, and supplier performance.
  • Manage maintenance schedules, service records, repairs, and the safe operating readiness of department equipment and machinery.
  • Plan for future equipment, machinery, and facility needs and prepare recommendations for approval.
People Leadership
  • Lead and develop the Cabinetry employees with clear expectations, decision-making authority, and accountability.
  • Ensure Lead Hands effectively provide daily direction, coaching, and workflow oversight to their teams.
  • Work with HR on workforce planning, recruitment, hiring, onboarding, training, performance management, and employee development.
  • Address escalated attendance, conduct, performance, and employee-relations concerns.
  • Build a department culture grounded in craftsmanship, communication, teamwork, and accountability.
Quality, Safety and Continuous Improvement
  • Establish department standards, checklists, and quality controls and regularly audit results.
  • Oversee the resolution of escalated quality issues, damage, warranty concerns, and client concerns.
  • Ensure tools, machinery, materials, and work areas are maintained and stored safely.
  • Ensure safety requirements and PPE expectations are followed and that incidents and near misses are reported, investigated, and addressed.
  • Use quality results, job-cost information, feedback, and lessons learned to improve workflow, training, equipment, and shop-to-field handoffs.
  • Provide technical direction or hands-on support for complex cabinetry, furniture, finishing, manufacturing, or installation challenges when required.
What You Bring

You combine strong cabinetry knowledge with the communication, organization, and leadership skills needed to run a safe, reliable, and financially responsible department.

  • Cabinetmaker or related cabinetry/carpentry trade certification, or equivalent senior-level cabinetry and millwork experience.
  • Progressive leadership experience, ideally leading Lead Hands, senior tradespeople, or a cabinetry department.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in cabinetry production, finishing, installation, woodworking machinery, and quality standards.
  • Knowledge of wood finishing and staining, spray equipment, and spray-booth operation and maintenance.
  • Strong organization, strategic thinking, and proactive planning skills.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, scopes, schedules, and job-cost information.
  • Experience coordinating multiple schedules, suppliers, inventory, equipment, and operational priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with clients, tradespeople, project teams, employees, and suppliers.
  • Sound judgment, practical problem-solving skills, and the confidence to make timely decisions.
  • Comfort using Buildertrend and other digital tools for scheduling, documentation, reporting, and performance tracking.
Working Conditions

This position works across office, cabinet-shop, and residential construction environments. It requires a regular presence in the cabinet shop and periodic travel to active project sites.

The role includes exposure to machinery, dust, fumes, finishing products, noise, and changing site or weather conditions. Appropriate PPE is required. Occasional hands-on work may involve prolonged standing or walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and lifting up to 50 lbs independently or more than 75 lbs with assistance.

Why Join Ackard?

At Ackard, you’ll join an established, community-focused company with more than four decades of experience and a reputation for high-quality residential renovation work. You’ll have the opportunity to lead a skilled team, influence how the department operates, and make a meaningful impact on the quality of our projects and the experience of our clients.

We offer:

  • Be part of an award-winning residential renovation company with over 40 years of success and a strong track record of continued growth.
  • Competitive compensation that reflects your skills and experience.
  • Comprehensive health and dental benefits through Sun Life.
  • Employee & Family Assistance Program.
  • Short-term and long-term disability coverage.
  • Life insurance.
  • Voluntary RRSP plan with company contributions.
  • Professional development, training, and career growth opportunities.
  • Paid personal and sick time.
  • Positive, team-driven culture built on collaboration and respect.
  • Birthday, work anniversary, and milestone recognition.
  • Christmas holiday shutdown.
  • Team-building and social events.
  • Strong commitment to work-life balance with little to no overtime.
Work With Purpose

At Ackard, we’re guided by our core values: honesty, integrity, respect, passion, and a dynamic culture. We take pride in both the work we do and the relationships we build along the way.
