Salvi Group in Sherwood Park, AB, is seeking a motivated Cabinet Maker/Installer to fabricate and install custom cabinetry for residential projects.

You will read blueprints, operate woodworking machinery, assemble cabinets, and assist on-site installations, collaborating closely with the Shop Foreman. Qualifications

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Shop Foreman, the Cabinet Maker/Installer is responsible for tasks including but not limited to: operation of woodworking machines including CNC nesting machine, doweling machine, case clamps, sliding table saws, jointers, planers, wide belt sanders and the use of hand tools to fabricate, shape, repair and construct wooden cabinets, doors and millwork. The successful candidate must be knowledgeable in all aspects of production, including the ability to read blueprints and specifications to be constructed, with an emphasis on quality and consistency.

When the workload dictates, this position may assist in cabinet finishing and other tasks as may be assigned , such as surface preparation, applying stains, paints and topcoats to a variety of woods and veneers, colour matching, and using/maintaining the spray booth. The successful candidate will be responsible for knowing and practicing safe working methods and having a strong knowledge of shop practices, procedures, techniques, tools, equipment, quality control and safety equipment. Dedication to quality craftsmanship is essential in this role.

This position is also responsible for assisting in the on-site installation of cabinets and millwork in new homes, including verifying site conditions, installing base, upper and tall cabinets, vanities, built-ins and trim, and completing adjustments and deficiencies to Salvi's quality standards. The Installer represents Salvi Group on site and must work professionally around homeowners, site supervisors and other trades.

Job Duties:

General:

  • Study plans, specifications or drawings of articles to be made
  • Operate millwork machinery and use hand tools to cut, shape and form parts and components
  • Trim joints and fit parts and subassemblies together to form a complete unit and reinforce joints
  • Gathering elements of each cabinet and assembling the final product
  • Inspecting each item to ensure quality control and specifications
  • Repair or restyle cabinets and/or their elements
  • Ensuring appropriate care for finished products
  • Operate woodworking machines
  • Trim component parts of joints to ensure a snug fit
  • Bore holes or insert screws or dowels
  • Sand and scrape surfaces and joints to prepare for finishing
  • Receive materials and deliverables
  • May apply varnish, veneer, stain or polish to finished products
  • May apply primer, tinted lacquer, and lacquers
  • May apply stains by hand and by spraying
  • Sand materials between coats
  • Store all materials properly and safely
  • Gather specifications from samples, clients and/or the design team
  • Estimate and gather materials required for production
  • Operate and maintain tools, equipment and forklift
  • Keep a daily log of tasks
  • Contribute and participate in the effective use of the Quality Control System
  • Understand and comply with all Policies and Procedures
  • Maintain a clean working area free from sawdust and debris between tasks and at the end of the day
  • Other duties as assigned

Installation Duties:

  • Load, secure, transport, and unload cabinets and millwork to job sites safely
  • Review installation drawings and confirm site measurements before starting
  • Check walls and floors for level, plumb and square, and report site issues to the Shop Foreman
  • Lay out and install base, upper and tall cabinets level, plumb and square
  • Scribe, shim and fit cabinets, fillers, panels and end caps to site conditions
  • Install vanities, built-ins, shelving, crown moulding, light valance and trim
  • Install and adjust doors, drawers, hinges and hardware for proper alignment and operation
  • Coordinate with site supervisors and other trades (countertops, plumbing, electrical) to meet the construction schedule
  • Protect finished work, flooring and homeowner property during installation
  • Complete deficiency, service and warranty repairs
  • Complete installation checklists and sign-offs
  • Keep the job site clean and remove packaging and debris at the end of each day
Requirements:
  • High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Current and cleared Criminal Record Check is required
  • Cabinet Maker certification is an asset
  • Minimum 2 years' experience installing cabinets and millwork in residential construction
  • Valid Class 5 driver's licence and clean driver's abstract
  • Ability to read installation drawings and work accurately to tight tolerances on site
  • Own basic installation hand tools
  • Knowledge of spray equipment and spray booth operation and maintenance is an asset
  • Experience in wood staining, painting and finishing is an asset
  • Basic knowledge of carpentry is an asset
  • First Aid and CPR are an asset
  • Ability to operate required hand and power tools and equipment in a safe and responsible manner
  • Effective verbal and listening communication skills
  • Time management skills
  • Strong working mechanical knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Ability to readily determine the correct tools and equipment needed to do a job
  • Ability to work with others in a team environment
Work Conditions:
  • Hours of work: 44 hours per week; Mon to Thurs 7:30 am-5:00 pm and Fri 7:30 am- 4:00 pm. One 30-minute unpaid lunch break and two 15-minute breaks provided per shift. Hours of work are subject to seasonal changes and variations caused by workload or other circumstances
  • Overtime as required
  • Ability to lift and carry objects up to 100lbs
  • Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry heavy objects, and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue
  • May be frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles
  • Requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination
  • Excellent stamina is required
  • Hazards associated with the construction industry
  • Regular travel to job sites in Sherwood Park and the surrounding area
  • Work in homes under construction and occupied homes, including at heights on ladders
