Every project is a chance to be creative, solve problems, and see the real impact of your skills. Our culture is built on honesty, integrity, respect, passion, and continuous growth—values we live every day. If you’re looking for a place where you can do great work, feel at home, and have some fun along the way, Ackard is the place to be.

What You’ll Do

As our next Apprentice Carpenter, you’ll report to our Lead Hand Carpenters and Site Supervisors and play a hands‑on role supporting the Construction Team across all phases of residential renovations and custom home builds—from demolition and framing to exterior finishes.

Your day‑to‑day may include:
  • Taking direction from the Lead Hand, Site Supervisor, and Construction Manager.
  • Assisting with demolition, site prep, cleanup, salvaging materials, and maintaining a hazard‑free work zone.
  • Loading and unloading materials, tools, and equipment, and distributing them according to plans or specs.
  • Helping frame foundations, walls, floors, ceilings, and roofs using a variety of materials including wood, steel, and composites.
  • Supporting the installation of doors, windows, hardware, trim, and other finishing components.
  • Erecting and dismantling scaffolding, ladders, and concrete forms; mixing and pouring concrete when needed.
  • Operating or tending equipment like pumps, compressors, generators, and portable cement mixers.
  • Measuring, cutting, and shaping materials using hand and power tools, ensuring precision and quality.
  • Reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and sketches to support layout and construction tasks.
  • Working alongside sub‑trades to meet project goals and timelines.
  • Participating in safety practices, including daily hazard assessments and weekly toolbox meetings.
  • Upholding all Ackard standards, procedures, and building codes on every project.

This role is a great fit for someone eager to build technical skills, gain hands‑on experience, and contribute to high‑quality residential projects in a supportive and values‑driven environment.

What You Bring

We’re looking for someone who’s passionate about their work, eager to contribute to a team, and committed to delivering high‑quality results. You’ll do well in this role if you:

  • Consistently produce high‑quality work while maintaining professionalism.
  • Maintain a positive, professional demeanor with clients, sub‑trades, and team members.
  • Have a solid understanding of tools and their proper use.
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Analyze situations and make informed decisions.
  • Plan and organize tasks efficiently.
What We Offer
  • Competitive Compensation: We offer a wage that reflects your skills and experience.
  • Comprehensive Health Benefits: Full benefits package including dental, prescriptions, eye exams, and extended health services like chiropractic, physiotherapy, and massage therapy—plus an Employee & Family Assistance program, all through our benefits provider.
  • Disability Insurance: Short‑term and long‑term disability coverage for peace of mind.
  • Life Insurance: Protecting you and your loved ones.
  • Employee Family Assistance Program: Support for you and your family with confidential counseling and resources.
  • Voluntary RRSP Plan: With company contributions to help you plan for your future.
  • Training and Development: Opportunities for apprenticeship training, career growth, and skills development.
  • Positive, Team‑Driven Culture: Join a team that values collaboration, respect, and continuous learning.
  • Recognition: Birthday, workiversary, and milestone recognition.
  • Holiday Shutdown: Enjoy a break with our shutdown over the Christmas holidays.
  • Team‑Building Activities: Participate in social events and activities to bond with your team.
  • Mileage Reimbursement: Reimbursement for travel‑related expenses when required.
  • Work‑Life Balance: We prioritize your well‑being with little to no overtime and no overnight travel for work.
Working Conditions
  • Work takes place on residential renovation and custom home build sites.
  • Exposure to seasonal weather—heat, cold, rain, and snow when working outdoors.
  • Frequently required to lift, carry, or move materials and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs; occasional lifting of items up to 75 lbs with assistance.
  • Regular tasks include standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, crouching, and handling construction tools and materials.
  • Work may be performed in confined, elevated, dusty, or noisy spaces.
  • Use of ladders, scaffolding, and power/hand tools is frequent.
  • Must wear appropriate PPE at all times (e.g., hard hat, safety boots, eye and ear protection).
  • Monday to Friday daytime schedule; minimal overtime and no overnight travel required.
