Job summary

The Richmond School District No. 38 is seeking a temporary full-time Cabinet Maker/Joiner for the Carpentry department to construct cabinets and furniture across 53 facilities.

The successful candidate must be Red Seal certified and hold a BC/Interprovincial Certificate of Qualification in Cabinet Maker-Joiner. You will perform millwork, alterations and installations, read plans, and provide technical expertise to district staff while upholding safety and quality standards.

  • BC/Interprovincial Carpentry Apprenticeship certificate required.
  • Red Seal cabinet maker-joiner certification required.

Responsibilities

We are currently looking for a temporary full-time Cabinet Maker/Joiner to join our Facilities Services department to perform millwork, maintenance alteration and construction at the journeyperson level across the district’s 53 facilities.

School District No. 38 (Richmond) requires a temporary full-time Cabinet Maker (Joiner) for the School District Carpentry department. This position will be focused on the construction of cabinets and other furniture needs throughout the school district. The district has a large well-equipped shop with the equipment and tools needed to do an outstanding job. This position will appeal to an individual who takes pride in their work, is an excellent craftsman, likes to be busy, is creative and energized by the recognition that you are building furniture that is instrumental in helping teachers and students excel in a learning environment.

The successful candidate for this position must be certified under the Inter-Provincial Red Seal program.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing maintenance, alteration and construction of existing district facilities
  • Building, repairing, and installing a variety of millwork such as cabinets, counters, shelving units and other finishing work for offices and classrooms
  • Designing, reading, and interpreting plans, drawings and specifications of equipment and furnishings
  • Providing technical expertise to district staff as required

Required Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent plus a BC or Interprovincial Certificate of Apprenticeship in Carpentry or equivalent apprenticeship training and a BC or Interprovincial Certificate of Qualification in Cabinet Maker-Joiner (T.Q.; Red Seal).
  • Two (2) years' experience at a journeyperson level in commercial and institutional carpentry, including renovation, repair and finishing work
  • Thorough knowledge of current techniques, methods, procedures, regulations, standards, and materials applicable to the carpentry trade
  • Competency in the use and care of tools and equipment common to the trade
  • Ability to organize workload, work under periodic pressure and complete assignments with minimal supervision
  • Ability to perform physical activities such as lifting, pushing, pulling, and moving heavy materials, equipment, and supplies
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License
  • Excellent communication skills

This is a unionized position that offers a 40-hour work week with an hourly wage of $40.75, plus a comprehensive benefit package including
