The Maritime College is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Business Office Administrative Assistant Program Instructor to join our team on a permanent, full-time basis and deliver instruction within our Business Office Administrative Assistant Program.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced administrative, communications, marketing, or business professional who is passionate about education, mentorship, and workforce development. The successful candidate will provide engaging classroom instruction, support student success, and help prepare graduates for careers in offices, businesses, professional organizations, government, non-profit organizations, and a wide range of administrative environments.

About the Role

The Business Office Administrative Assistant Program Instructor is responsible for delivering course content, facilitating practical learning activities, evaluating student performance, and maintaining academic standards in accordance with Private Career College requirements and applicable provincial regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality instruction in assigned Business Office Administrative Assistant Program courses.
  • Prepare lesson plans, presentations, assignments, assessments, and other instructional materials.
  • Facilitate classroom discussions, demonstrations, simulations, and practical learning activities.
  • Provide instruction in office administration, business communication, records management, document preparation, scheduling, customer service, and professional workplace practices.
  • Demonstrate appropriate administrative procedures, office workflows, filing systems, correspondence, meeting coordination, and business documentation.
  • Provide instruction in Microsoft Office applications and other relevant business and administrative software.
  • Provide instruction and practical training in professional written and verbal communication, business correspondence, workplace communications, and digital communications.
  • Provide instruction in social media communications, social media management, professional social media practices, and appropriate use of social platforms in a business environment.
  • Introduce students to digital marketing fundamentals, including content creation, online communications, social media marketing, digital branding, email marketing, and basic digital marketing strategies.
  • Introduce students to emerging technologies and appropriate applications of artificial intelligence (AI) within modern administrative, communications, marketing, and business environments.
  • Demonstrate professional approaches to creating and managing digital content for business and organizational purposes.
  • Evaluate student assignments, examinations, projects, practical activities, and other assessments.
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback and academic support to students.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, grading, and academic records.
  • Foster a positive, professional, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to students as they prepare for careers in business administration, office support, communications, and related fields.
  • Participate in program development, curriculum enhancement, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with College administration and other instructors to support program delivery and student success.
  • Ensure compliance with College policies, academic standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.

Required:

  • Diploma or Degree in Business Administration, Office Administration, Business Management, Communications, Marketing, Digital Marketing, Administrative Professional, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of office administration, business communication, document preparation, records management, scheduling, customer service, and professional workplace practices.
  • Demonstrated experience in professional business communication, including written, verbal, digital, and workplace communications.
  • Demonstrated experience using social media platforms for professional, business, organizational, or marketing purposes.
  • Knowledge of social media management, digital communications, and digital marketing practices.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and related business software.
  • Strong understanding of professional communication, confidentiality, organization, time management, and administrative procedures.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, organizational, interpersonal, and digital skills.
  • Ability to effectively demonstrate practical office, administrative, communications, social media, and digital workplace procedures in a classroom environment.

Preferred:

  • Previous teaching, training, mentoring, or instructional experience.
  • Experience working in business offices, corporate environments, professional services, government, non-profit organizations, educational institutions, or other administrative settings.
  • Experience in communications, marketing, social media management, digital marketing, content creation, or public relations.
  • Professional certification in communications, marketing, digital marketing, social media, public relations, or a related discipline.
  • Experience managing professional social media accounts and creating content for platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, or other relevant platforms.
  • Experience with digital marketing tools, email marketing platforms, content management systems, website content, analytics, and online advertising.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 and cloud-based productivity platforms.
  • Experience developing curriculum, assessments, or instructional materials.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring administrative staff.

Instructor Qualifications & Registration Requirements

To be eligible for instructor registration with the Nova Scotia Private Career Colleges Division, applicants must meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a related field and at least one (1) year of industry experience; or
  • A college diploma or certificate in a related field and at least two (2) years of industry experience; or
  • A Bachelor of Education degree or valid Nova Scotia teaching certificate and at least two (2) years of industry experience; or
  • A minimum of five (5) years of directly related occupational experience; or
  • Equivalent qualifications recognized for specialized or emerging occupations.

Additional Requirements

  • Must be eligible for instructor registration under applicable Nova Scotia Private Career Colleges regulations.
  • Applicants may be required to provide proof of education, certifications, professional designations, and industry experience.
  • Instructors with less than one (1) year of teaching experience in a formal evaluative setting may be required to complete an approved Instructional Methods or Train-the-Trainer program within the provincially required timeframe.
  • Additional program-specific qualifications, professional designations, or certifications may be required.
