Job summary

A leading supplier of advanced optical systems is seeking a Business Development Representative to engage government clients and drive sales. Reporting to the Sales and Marketing Manager, you will manage relationships and develop tailored proposals. Ideal candidates have a Bachelor's degree and 3 years in Government Sales. Competitive salary of $80,000 CAD with uncapped commissions. This is an in-office position located in Vaughan, Ontario with a comprehensive benefits package.

Business Development Representative – Government Sales

GSCI Advanced Photonics is a leading supplier of Night Vision and Thermal Imaging systems to Canadian and International Military and Law Enforcement customers. With over 30 years of experience, we pride ourselves on our ability to design, develop, and manufacture electro-optics systems that are used across the globe.

The Government Sales Specialist plays a pivotal role in identifying business opportunities, engaging with new clients, developing tailored proposals, and managing existing accounts. This position requires consistent client interaction, in-depth knowledge of industry standards, and a focus on meeting client expectations while driving sales to organizations across international and domestic markets.

The ideal candidate will report directly to the Sales and Marketing Manager while maintaining regular collaboration with the CEO and COO for contract guidance and approvals. This close cooperation is essential for achieving and exceeding the company's revenue targets.

We offer a competitive compensation package commensurate with qualifications including a base salary of $80,000 CAD, and an uncapped commission based on sales performance, paid bi‑weekly. Benefits package includes medical, dental, vision and life insurance.

This position is not open for remote work and is an in‑office position at our headquarters in Woodbridge, ON.

Required Experience

• Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of experience in Government Sales or Government Procurement.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain key customer relationships and develop and implement strategies for expanding the company’s customer base.
  • Conduct the entire sales cycle from customer outreach to closing deals with Government end‑use customers and agents.
  • Educate customers about our company and products and represent the company in a professional and consistent manner, through online video demonstrations or on‑site demonstrations.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and partners, utilizing strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Act as a liaison between clients and the company, actively promote services, gather and exchange information.
  • Represent the company at industry functions, conferences, trade‑shows, seminars, meetings, and when necessary, organize and conduct client online presentations and training.
  • Stay up‑to‑date on industry knowledge, competitive offerings and capabilities, and product knowledge to ensure effective communication and demonstration abilities.
  • Inform clients of updates regarding new devices, options and capabilities.
  • Assist in resolving client concerns relative to service and report quality issues in a timely manner.
  • Continuously analyze the market and competition and identify external threats and opportunities and adapt sales strategy to changing conditions.
  • Provide weekly, monthly and/or quarterly updates as directed.
  • Provide suggestions for creative solutions for online advertising and social media marketing to the Sales and Marketing team for product promotion, advertising, and campaigns.
  • Utilize Epicor ERP in daily operations with accuracy, following standard operating procedures.
  • Maintain accurate customer records in Excel and Epicor ERP.
  • Complete other administrative duties as required.

  • A natural ability and eagerness to build and maintain relationships with clients and colleagues, ensuring clear and effective communication using appropriate technical terminology.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage with highly professional clients and build strong working relationships.
  • A passion for continuous improvement both personally and within GSCI.
  • A quick learner, with a positive attitude and excellent problem‑solving skills.
  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a team, with strong relationship‑management skills.
  • Proficiency in working with MS Office and other essential computer programs for conducting efficient business.
  • Second language proficiency other than English is desirable, but not required.
