Business Development Representative (BDR)

Lumi AI
Toronto
CAD 50,000 - 90,000
Job description

Lumi AI is a fast growing, venture-backed startup with a mission to help companies find value hidden in their raw data. Our platform enables data teams to offer self-service analytics via natural language prompting, allowing non-technical business users to extract highly specific insights inaccessible through centralized dashboards, freeing up data teams for more strategic work. You can think of Lumi as your personal data analyst AI available 24/7.

Lumi AI was founded by leaders from the data, AI, and tech industry and backed by top investors from Silicon Valley, New York and around the world. We believe in innovation, fun, a strong work culture, and building a world-class team. At Lumi, we are continually pushing the boundaries of what’s possible to better serve our clients and revolutionize the tech landscape.

About the Role

As a BDR at Lumi AI, you’ll play a key role in driving outbound sales by identifying, engaging, and qualifying prospects through cold outreach (email, LinkedIn, and phone). You’ll work closely with the go-to-market (GTM) team to refine strategies and build a pipeline of high-quality leads. Additionally, you’ll support marketing initiatives like campaigns and events to expand our reach and strengthen brand visibility.

This is a ground-floor opportunity for someone with management and growth ambitions to not only contribute to a fast-growing AI startup but also help shape the sales playbook and influence Lumi’s outbound strategy as we scale. If you’re hungry to grow, take ownership, and make an impact, we’d love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Outbound Sales Development
    – Research and identify potential clients that align with Lumi AI’s target personas and industries (e.g., supply chain, retail, 3PL).
    – Conduct cold outreach via email, phone, and LinkedIn to engage with prospects and generate qualified leads.
    – Build and maintain a robust pipeline of opportunities for the sales team.
    – Use HubSpot to track, manage, and document prospecting activities and progress.
    – Schedule and coordinate meetings or demos for CEO.
    – Support the creation of the sales playbook.
  2. Lead Qualification
    – Engage prospects in meaningful conversations to understand their pain points and qualify them against Lumi AI’s ideal customer profile (ICP).
    – Identify key decision-makers and assess potential for further engagement.
    – Nurture cold or unqualified leads into opportunities over time.
  3. Support Marketing Initiatives
    – Help with marketing initiatives to execute outbound campaigns, including crafting email sequences, cold-call scripts, or LinkedIn messaging templates.
    – Assist with event promotion, follow-up campaigns, and content distribution (e.g., case studies, blog posts).
  4. Collaboration & Reporting
    – Meet with CEO on a weekly basis for game-tape review.
    – Provide insights from outreach activities to refine ICPs, messaging, and strategies.
    – Regularly report on KPIs, including the number of leads generated, qualified leads, and meetings booked.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  1. Number of new outbound leads generated weekly/monthly.
  2. Conversion rate of leads to qualified opportunities.
  3. Number of meetings booked.
  4. Pipeline generated.
  5. Contribution to marketing campaign outcomes (e.g., event signups, content engagement).

Required Skills & Experience:

  1. A minimum of 1 year of experience in outbound sales or lead generation roles, ideally within SaaS, B2B, or enterprise-grade data solutions.
  2. Proven success in outbound prospecting using multiple channels (cold email, phone, LinkedIn).
  3. Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to craft compelling messaging.
  4. Familiarity with CRM tools (HubSpot) and sales enablement platforms (Apollo).
  5. Ability to understand complex solutions and communicate value propositions effectively.
  6. Highly motivated, results-driven, and comfortable with achieving and exceeding targets.
  7. Detail-oriented, with strong organizational and time management skills.

Nice-to-Have:

  1. Experience in marketing support, such as assisting with email campaigns, event coordination, or SEO research.
  2. Familiarity with marketing automation tools (Customer.io).
  3. Familiarity with the supply chain, retail, or 3PL industries.
  4. Knowledge of conversational AI or analytics tools.

What We Offer:

  1. Competitive salary with performance-based incentives.
  2. Equity ownership – share in the success of a fast-growing AI startup.
  3. Clear path to career growth and mentorship in a fast-growing SaaS company.
  4. A collaborative, inclusive, and innovative work environment.
  5. Flexible work arrangements (remote or hybrid).
  6. The opportunity to work at the forefront of AI-driven analytics.
