Wood is recruiting for a Business Development Director to join our Oil & Gas and New Energies business focusing on delivering complex projects in Canada. This opportunity is hybrid.

Role

Seeking an experienced Business Development Director based out of our Calgary office. Reporting to the VP of Business Development for Canada, the candidate supports global and Canadian business units across consulting, projects, and operations, driving collaboration and growth.

Clients & Projects

Projects include traditional onshore oil and gas, Energy Transition, Hydrogen, Carbon Capture, Renewables, Alternative Fuels, Licensor Integration, BioProducts, Midstream, Pipelines, Thermal Upstream, Downstream Refining, Petrochemicals, Oilsands Mining and Offshore Oil & Gas.

Responsibilities
Strategy & Growth
  • Identify emerging market trends, conduct market analysis and client‑specific opportunities related to onshore/offshore oil & gas, new energy, power generation, energy transition, Alternative Fuels, Methanol, Ammonia, and new technologies.
  • Support VP Growth & Development with forecasting and prospect portfolio management.
  • Leverage Wood global solutions for clients.
  • Identify and support potential partnering agreements and JV partners.
  • Be familiar with government apparatus for contract approvals and awards.
Client Relationship Management
  • Identify, validate and lead key prospects and opportunities.
  • Facilitate client meetings and presentations.
  • Own 3‑5 key client accounts, including account planning, strategy development and relationship management.
  • Maintain opportunity records in Wood’s CRM system.
  • Obtain independent customer feedback through client visits, analyze it and incorporate into improvement plans.
  • Develop strong relationships with local partners.
Internal Sales
  • Develop win strategies and win plans to support proposals.
  • Use commercial and contractual acumen to identify barriers to success.
  • Coordinate input into Lead Review Meeting process and reviews with Segment Directors.
  • Collaborate with regional and global Wood entities for a unified customer approach.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor level degree in a technical or related field.
  • 12‑15+ years of experience in Business Development and Project Execution.
  • Experience in the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction industry.
  • Key client relationships within major Canadian Energy industry organizations.
  • Understanding of projects in Oil & Gas and Petrochemical industries.
  • Proficiency with CRM tools and systems.
  • Knowledge of economic and commercial drivers in the EPC business.
  • Experience with HSE leadership and commitment.
  • Preferable international operations experience.
  • Advanced computer skills with Microsoft Office tools.
  • Proactive and outcome‑driven attitude.
  • Ability to manage diverse and challenging client portfolio.
  • Hands‑on approach with internal sales team.
  • Critical thinking and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Decisive and follow‑through with learning capture.
