Job summary

Wood is seeking an Intermediate Instrumentation & Controls Engineer/Technologist to support the execution of varied projects within our Projects Canada division, hybrid in Calgary, Alberta. You will work in a multidisciplinary team delivering instrumentation and control solutions across a broad spectrum of industrial projects.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Instrumentation Technology or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum four years of industry experience in Instrumentation & Controls engineering.
  • Good understanding of API, ASME, and CSA codes, standards, and directives.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
  • Experience in the Oil & Gas industry.
  • Experience using AVEVA Instrumentation or SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI).
  • Registration with, or eligibility for registration through, APEGA.

Responsibilities

  • Assure compliance with engineering procedures and quality control standards.
  • Interface effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams and equipment suppliers.
  • Specify, select, and size field instrumentation, including pressure, temperature, flow, and level measurement devices, control valves, on/off valves, and pressure safety valves (PSVs).
  • Prepare and review instrument deliverables, including instrument indexes, I/O lists, load lists, and related documentation.
  • Develop material take-offs (MTOs).
  • Support the selection and procurement of control systems hardware, including DCS, PLC, and Fire & Gas Systems.
  • Prepare and review instrument loop diagrams, control cabinet designs, and wiring documentation.
  • Perform squad checks of vendor data and drawings from other disciplines.
  • Provide instrumentation and controls input to P&ID development.
  • Develop the instrumentation and controls technical content of assigned project work.
  • Maintain regular communication with equipment vendors and suppliers.
  • Prepare Material Requisitions (MRs), Technical Bid Evaluations (TBEs), and award recommendations for instrumentation and controls equipment.

The Role

Wood is seeking an Intermediate Instrumentation & Controls Engineer / Technologist to support the execution of a variety of projects within our Projects Canada business. The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team delivering instrumentation and control solutions across a broad range of industrial projects.

Supporting projects through the full project lifecycle, including Studies, Design Basis Memoranda (DBM), Front-End Engineering Design (FEED), and Detailed Design, this role offers the opportunity to contribute to innovative engineering solutions while working closely with clients, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
