General Accountability
The Business Analyst is responsible for eliciting and understanding business requirements and documenting them in a format that can be understood by feature teams and business partners in an agile environment. The position works closely with the Product Owner to understand business priorities, processes, users, and interactions with the systems. The Business Analyst acts as a conduit between the business community and the delivery teams to collect, clarify, and translate business requirements into documentation and concepts to be implemented or executed in project, developed in software, or configured in platform.
Key Accountabilities

Business Analysis
Partners with business and technology partners to elicit, analyze, translate, and document user stories.
Understands business processes, measures, and sequencing through journey maps, and collaborates with product owner and stakeholders to create epics, features, and user stories.
Works with the product owner to create and manage the product backlog by adding features and requests.
Engages with the product owner to prioritize and plan the product roadmap.
Works with stakeholders to identify improvement to business processes or services that can be accomplished through new technology or alternative uses of existing technology.
Investigates and understands business requirements and documents the relationships between the components of the application system (i.e., end users, business processes, data, applications, devices).
Maintains relationships with key business stakeholders to understand changes to business procedures and processes.
Ensures that business artifacts are maintained in a requirements repository.
Collaborates with delivery teams and business stakeholders to develop and maintain testing plans, procedures, and guidelines to ensure consistent testing procedures for each application in accordance with company polices and best practices.
Develops acceptance criteria for user stories that clarify the expected outcomes.
Validates that acceptance criteria have been covered by test cases.
Establishes and maintains requirements traceability through user stories and testing artifacts.
Identifies defect trends and uses that knowledge to improve the test suite.
Helps identify key performance indicators (KPIs) for the business for delivery teams.
Collaborates with other delivery teams to ensure compatibility and interoperability between business services.
Understands business problems and translates them using appropriate techniques to be understood and implemented by delivery teams.
Works with product owners and delivery teams to identify and understand change impacts for inclusion in organizational change management plans, as required.
Elicits and integrates business requirements (or needs) across divisions or stakeholder groups for use by multiple delivery teams (e.g., systems, corporate services, external), as required.
Facilitates sprint ceremonies, requirements sessions, and workshops with delivery teams and stakeholders.
Keeps current with industry best practices and emerging technology and implements as appropriate into software development process.
Stays well informed and maintains knowledge of industry trends and changes.
Works with business partners and product owners to affect improvements to business and development KPIs.
Participates in retrospective exercises for delivery teams to identify and implement process improvements.
Deployment and Maintenance
Collaborates with technology and business partners to plan releases into production environments.
Monitors and responds to changes in business and application KPI metrics.
Collaborates with product owner and delivery teams to validate and prioritize production issues.
Interactions
Provides feedback for prioritization of functional and non-functional requirements.
Works with business partners and feature teams to ensure requirements are properly documented.
Provides feedback and requirements for:
test automation, manual exploratory testing, and performance/load tests; and
application performance and usage monitoring.

Advanced skill in validation processes (i.e., validating that testing of user stories meets the required acceptance criteria).
Proficient knowledge of project management fundamentals.
Proficient knowledge of core insurance concepts and principles.
Education & Certifications
Four-year degree from an accredited post-secondary education institution in a relevant field of study, such as Business, Information Technology, or Mathematics & Applied Science, or defined equivalency.
Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP), Certification of Capability in Business Analysis (CCBA), or other industry-recognized designation/certification.
Experience
Three to Five years’ experience in business analysis.
