Job summary

The Kativik Regional Government (KRG) seeks a self-motivated Building Technician – Carpenter to join the Municipal Public Works Department. You will perform preventive maintenance and repairs on architectural components across KRG facilities and support 14 Northern Villages with operations and maintenance needs.

Position is permanent with on-rotation schedules (6-3 or 4-2) in Nunavik, requiring CCQ certification, a valid driver’s license, and ability to read drawings.

Qualifications

• Must hold CCQ card (Trade #160).
• Has a valid class-5 driver’s license.
• Minimum of five to eight years of relevant building experience in renovation work.
• Ability to read drawings and schematics.
• Organized in their work and meet deadlines.
• Demonstrated reliability, autonomy and initiative.
• Written and oral working knowledge of at least two of the following languages: Inuktitut, English and French.
• MS Office knowledge would be an asset.
• Ability to work independently as well as in a team.

JOB OPPORTUNITY

The Kativik Regional Government (KRG), a supra municipal body with jurisdiction over the territory located north of the 55th parallel, is now looking for a self-motivated and dynamic individual interested in joining the KRG to work in the capacity of:

BUILDING TECHNICIAN - CARPENTER

(Permanent, on rotation)

The Municipal Public Works Department (MPW) of the KRG is responsible to maintain the organization buildings (offices, police stations, airports, employees housing units, etc.) and to provide technical assistance to the 14 Northern Villages (NVs) in matters related to operation and maintenance of their recreational buildings (arenas, swimming pools, gymnasiums and community centres).

Reporting to the Maintenance Coordinator of the Building Maintenance Section, the Building Technician performs preventive maintenance and service/repair operations on the architectural components of our buildings (roofs, siding, doors, windows, stairs, flooring, drywall, etc.) accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

DUTIES:

• Perform scheduled maintenance service and repairs to the architectural components
• Ensure all installations, repairs and maintenance meet the requirements of the appropriate codes and the quality required by the KRG;
• Complying with safety rules;
• Perform general building maintenance and repairs as it relates to light construction, plastering and painting;
• Perform any other duty requested by his/her supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Hold a valid CCQ card (Trade #160)
• Have a valid class-5 driver’s licence;
• Minimum of five to eight years of relevant building experience in renovation work;
• Ability to read drawings and schematics;
• Organized in their work and meet deadlines;
• Demonstrated good professional conduct as well as being reliable, autonomous and possess a sense of initiative;
• Written and oral working knowledge of at least two (2) of the following languages: Inuktitut, English and French
• Have working knowledge of computer software such as Microsoft Office would be considered an asset;
• Ability to work independently as well as in a team.

Work schedule and place of work:

• 6-3 rotation schedule: 6 weeks working in the Northern Villages (52.5 hours weekly), followed by 3 weeks paid leave (35 hours weekly) or;
• 4-2 rotation schedule: 4 weeks working in the Northern Villages (52.5 hours weekly), followed by 2 weeks paid leave (35 hours weekly);
• Place of work: Nunavik

Salary: Minimum $52 481 maximum $89 256 annually (Class 8)
