Job summary

PCL Construction Management Inc. in Edmonton, Alberta (Buildings) is seeking a Building Systems Manager to oversee building systems across one or more projects, coordinating trade contractors, consultants, owner requirements, schedules, inspections and code compliance to ensure systems are installed on time.

With 5–7 years in mechanical/electrical construction and strong drawing coordination, you will drive commissioning, change management and quality across projects in the Buildings group.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 5–7 years of progressive experience in mechanical/electrical construction.
  • Intermediate knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, principles, and practices.
  • Experience with reviewing trade contractors’ progress billings and assessing for accuracy.
  • Ability to coordinate mechanical, electrical, architectural, civil, and structural drawings and specifications.
  • Knowledge of basic construction law and ability to apply building codes as required.
  • Understanding of different types of contract delivery methods.
  • Ability to manage contractual obligations and responsibilities related to building systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication with internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews building system trades’ progress for compliance with drawings, specs, quality, schedule and constructability; communicates risks and opportunities to the team.
  • Processes critical building systems submittals, coordination documents, and reports.
  • Ensures coordination of drawing processes and guides model coordination as needed.
  • Reviews contract details; identifies risks and communicates opportunities to the team; manages trade contractor contracts.
  • Reviews and processes change notices/orders; assesses effects on budget, scope and schedule.
  • Provides direction to project teams, consultants and trade contractors through design-build production.
  • Monitors trade activity and enforces preapproved quality-management programs.
  • Utilizes project management software to track changes and forecasts.
  • Leads the project team and directs building systems commissioning.

Responsibilities
  • Reviews building system trades’ progress for compliance with drawings, specifications, quality, schedule, and constructability. Identifies risks and opportunities and communicates to the project team.
  • Processes critical building systems submittals, coordination documents, and report.
  • Ensures the coordination of the drawing process and provides direction on model coordination, as required.
  • Reviews and understands prime contract and building systems subcontract details. Identifies and communicates risks and opportunities to the project team and ensures contract management of the trade contractors.
  • Reviews, negotiates, and processes change notices/orders related to building systems and assesses their effect on the project budget, scope, and schedule.
  • Assists with providing direction to the project teams, consultants, and trade contractors through the design-build production.
  • Monitors the building systems trades activity and enforces the preapproved trade contractor quality-management programs.
  • Utilizes internal project management operating system to track trade contractor changes and building systems related forecasts.
  • Leads the project team and is responsible for the overall execution of the building systems commissioning process.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Tradesperson or postsecondary diploma/degree in a related discipline (e.g., mechanical, electrical, controls) is preferred.
  • 5 to 7 years of progressive experience in mechanical/electrical construction.
  • Intermediate knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, principles, and practices.
  • Experience with reviewing trade contractors’ progress billings and assessing for accuracy.
  • Ability to facilitate the coordination of mechanical, electrical, architectural, civil, and structural drawings and specifications.
  • Knowledge of basic construction law and ability to apply building codes as required.
  • Understanding of different types of contract delivery methods.
  • Ability to manage contractual obligations and responsibilities related to building systems.
  • Uses effective verbal and written communication skills with internal and external stakeholders.
