Job summary

PCL Construction Management Inc. in Edmonton, Alberta (Buildings) seeks a Senior Project Manager to lead innovative infrastructure projects that shape the community. You will mentor teams, oversee safety programs, and drive project execution from design through commissioning.

You will liaise with clients, participate in estimates, and ensure quality and safety standards across multi-trade sites. A background in engineering or construction management and Gold Seal is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Postsecondary education or training in engineering, construction management, or a related discipline (degree or diploma).
  • Gold Seal certification (CDN) is preferred.
  • 15+ years of progressive construction experience with multiple contract types (leadership preferred).
  • Strong safety, environment, and quality management knowledge within large projects.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, implements, and maintains the project safety program and culture.
  • Conducts site tours, safety inspections, and ensures adherence to policies and standards.
  • Leads design reviews for compliance, scope, and constructability with the team.
  • Coordinates the Project Execution Plan with the superintendent and client.
  • Manages schedule of design deliverables for permits, procurement, and construction.
  • Supports securing new work through estimates, proposals, and client engagement.

As a Senior Project Manager in Edmonton, Alberta (Buildings), you will contribute to our team by:

  • Develops, implements, and maintains the project safety program for a safe work environment. Creates and influences safety culture as a mentor and model.
  • Conducts job site tours and safety inspections and leads by example to ensure that policies, procedures, environmental programs and safety standards are followed.
  • Conducts site and safety inspections, attends progress meetings, leads by example, reviews incidents, near misses, HSE reports, and statistics, and effects change to ensure that project safety standards, legislation, and environmental programs are followed.
  • Liaises with clients to ensure that projects are constructed as per quality and safety standards, and contract.
  • Leads to secure new work by participating in estimates, working with trade contractors, and/or participating in proposals and presentations.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of quality management plan and quality culture with stakeholder buy-in.
  • Understands client drivers and offers value engineering proposals for functionality, cost, and/or schedule benefit to the client while maintaining value-added outcomes as part of our solution provider service where warranted.
  • Develops or oversees the Project Execution Plan (PEP) with the superintendent.
  • Coordinates, monitors, and manages design deliverable schedule to facilitate and/or assist with permits, procurement, shop drawings, off-site production, construction and commissioning in conjunction with the review and signoff by the client.
  • Conducts review of design and seeks resolution from the design team with respect to compliance, scope creep, cost optimization, code requirements, procurement, safety in design, construction sequencing, and constructability.
  • Conducts review of design documentation, leveraging the necessary team members, and seeks resolution from the design team with respect to level of design completeness, accuracy, and quality as applicable to various design stages and construction.
Qualifications
  • Postsecondary education or training in engineering, construction management, or a related discipline.
  • Gold Seal certification (CDN).
  • 15+ years of progressive construction experience with multiple contract delivery types as a leader and mentor preferred.
  • 12 months of estimating or related experience preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge and application of safety and environment principles/ procedures/legislation.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction industry and company operations, including building materials, construction specifications, methods and procedures, safety and quality management practices for large, complex, and more diverse projects.
  • Experience with diverse project types, delivery and construction methods, and sequencing and timelines.
  • Strong knowledge of and ability to apply project construction laws and building codes and to leverage such knowledge.
  • Understanding of and experience with collective agreements and jurisdiction assignment for multi-trade sites.
  • Thorough understanding of insurance, bonding, and legal requirements.
  • Effective verbal, written, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to monitor and forecast project resources and staffing for the project.
  • Ability to identify staffing and hourly labor issues.
