Job summary

Atira Women’s Resource Society is seeking a Building Services Worker for the Flint– Downtown Eastside site in Vancouver. This part-time, temporary role runs 16 hours per week with Saturday and Sunday shifts from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., paying $21.72 per hour (Wage grid#3).

You’ll perform cleaning of floors, bathrooms, kitchens, common areas, and report maintenance needs. The position requires ability to work independently, follow safety protocols, and maintain a safe, sanitary environment for

  • One month of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • A valid First Aid certificate is required.
  • WHMIS certificate is required.
  • Criminal records review will be conducted and is paid by Atira.
  • Covid-19 vaccination is recommended.

Responsibilities

  • Wash and clean floors and carpets in common areas.
  • Clean bathrooms, kitchens and room doors in common areas; dust and polish surfaces.
  • Clean stairwells and windows; dispose of refuse.
  • Report damage or maintenance issues to the Building Manager.

About the Job:

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Building Services Worker, is responsible for washing and cleaning floors and carpets, cleaning bathrooms, kitchens and room doors in common areas, cleaning stairwells, disposing of refuge, cleaning windows, dusting and polishing furniture and fixtures. The Building Services Worker is regularly exposed to and in direct contact with dust, dirt, fumes, cleaning and other chemicals, germs and human waste. The Building Services Worker maintains the cleanliness of the grounds, may be required to clean vacant rooms; and reports any damage and/or problems in the building to the Building Manager.

You are sex worker positive – you understand sex work, including survival sex work, as part of a broader social, economic, and gendered context and bring an approach grounded in respect, autonomy, and dignity.

You treat others with fairness and respect, challenge practices that conflict with shared values, and contribute to a supportive, accountable team environment. You inspire others through your commitment to anti-violence and promoting equity, prioritize the needs of the communities we serve, and challenge the status quo to improve quality and sustainability. You Also Have:
  • Proven initiative, judgement, decision‑making and problem‑saving capabilities.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain rapport with tenants, your co‑workers, and other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and carry out work with independence.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties and carry out heavy cleaning duties
Additional Requisites/Assets:
  • One (1) month recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • A valid First Aid certificate is required.
  • WHMIS certificate is required. (training can be provided if required)
  • All positions are subject to a criminal records review (paid by Atira)
  • You are recommended to be vaccinated for Covid‑19
