Job summary

Rocky View County is seeking a Safety Codes Officer – Building to review permit applications, inspect on-site construction, and enforce the Alberta Safety Codes Act and County bylaws. You will coordinate with multiple agencies, write orders, and mentor junior staff to uphold high professional standards.

The role requires a Journeyman Carpenter or Civil/Architectural Technology diploma and strong communication skills. Proficiency with CityView is an asset, and a valid driver’s license is expected.

Qualifications

• Journeyman Carpenter or Civil/Architectural Tech diploma required or equivalent
• Experience in building construction, inspections, plan review, or as a Safety Codes Officer is an asset
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to work with diverse stakeholders and teams
• Proficient in MS Office Suite and able to manage multiple files and deadlines

Responsibilities

• Review building plans with homeowners and designers to ensure National Building Code compliance.
• Review plans for Land Use Bylaw compliance (setbacks, heights, floor area, uses).
• Issue Building Permits and sub-trade permits.
• Inspect on-site construction and write Inspection Reports.
• Collaborate with Plumbing, Gas, Health, Fire, and Electrical inspection agencies.
• Mentor Safety Codes personnel and maintain professional conduct.
• Attend court proceedings when required.
• Maintain records according to the Quality Management Plan.
