Job summary

University Health Network (UHN) is Canada’s leading hospital system with Toronto General Hospital as a key site. The Building Operator role is part of Facilities Management, focusing on mechanical operations, maintenance, energy management and ensuring uptime of plant equipment at the site.

We offer a permanent full-time position with rotating evenings (15:00-23:00) and nights (23:00-07:00), plus rotating weekends.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certificate or Diploma in Building Operations or a 3rd/4th Class Stationary Engineer Certificate (TSSA) or recognized licensed trade certification (HVAC, Plumbing, Millwright, Electrician).
  • If licensed trade, possession of the provincial Certificate of Qualifications (COQ).
  • Minimum 2 years practical hands on experience in facilities operation and equipment/ machinery maintenance.
  • Ability to work independently and multi-task with initiative and good judgement.
  • Confidentiality requirements under UHN Privacy Policy.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of CMMS is an asset.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical/electrical blueprints.
  • Client service oriented and able to work with diverse teams.
  • Physical ability to lift 11 kg to 20 kg.

Responsibilities

  • Planning and undertaking all mechanical operations, maintenance, communications, and energy management.
  • Performing operations and preventative maintenance to ensure continuous operation of plant equipment/machinery.
  • Diagnosing problems of equipment/machinery; providing feedback to prevent impact on existing systems.
  • Inspection of the facility/mechanical rooms; repairing equipment/machinery.
  • Contributing to efficient departmental operation.
  • Performing cross-functional duties as assigned.
  • Performing other duties as deemed necessary.

Hours:37.5 hours per week
Wage Range:$35.57 - $36.19 per hour.Start rate non-negotiable.
Shifts:Rotating Evenings(15:00 - 23:00) andNights (23:00 - 07:00)plus working rotating weekends. Shift(s)/Hours are subject to change in accordance with the terms of the Collective Agreement.

Duties

As an integral member of the Facility’s Operations and Maintenance Department, the Building Operator is responsible for:

  • Planning and undertaking of all mechanical operations, maintenance, communications, and energy management.
  • Performing operations and undertaking preventative maintenance to ensure the continuous operation of plant’s equipment/machinery
  • Diagnosing problems of equipment/machinery; providing feedback to ensure new construction and/or modification will not impact existing systems;
  • Inspection of the facility / mechanical rooms; repairing equipment / machinery;
  • contributing to the efficient operation of the department;
  • Performing cross-functional duties as assigned and/or required;
  • Performing other duties consistent with the classification, as deemed necessary.
Qualifications
  • At minimum completion of high school or recognized equivalent
  • A Certificate or Diploma in Building Operations, or a 3rd or 4th Class Stationary Engineer Certificate (TSSA), or a recognized licensed trade certification (HVAC, Plumbing, Millwright, Electrician).
  • If licensed trade, possession of the provincial Certificate of Qualifications (COQ)
  • Minimum 2 years practical hands on experience in facilities operation and equipment / machinery maintenance
  • Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance to UHN standards
  • Ability to work on his own / multi tasking and exercise initiative and good judgement.
  • Compliance with confidentiality requirements under UHN Privacy Policy
  • Effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Knowledge of applicable legislative, UHN and/or departmental policies
  • Knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) is an asset
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical / electrical blueprints
  • Client service oriented, with the ability to effectively work with diversity and appreciate that people with different opinions, backgrounds and characteristics bring richness to the challenge or situation at hand
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job including: able to lift 11 kg to 20 kg
