Job summary

The City of Kamloops is seeking a highly skilled Building Official II to join the Development, Engineering, and Sustainability team in a permanent, full-time role. You will review and approve building permits, perform site inspections, and enforce BC Building Code and city bylaws, guiding internal teams and external partners.

Qualifications

• Completion of secondary school or equivalent.
• Valid BC Driver’s Licence - Class 5.
• BC Trade Qualification or inter-provincial carpentry ticket and/or graduation from a recognized building technology course.
• Level II certification with the Building Officials Association of BC.

Responsibilities

• Review and approve building permits and conduct site inspections.
• Enforce BC Building Code and City bylaws.
• Provide professional guidance to internal departments, developers, owners, contractors and external agencies.

Education

The City of Kamloops is seeking a highly skilled permanent, full-timeBuilding Official II to join our dedicated Development, Engineering, and Sustainability (DES) team. This is an opportunity to have a direct impact on the growth and innovation in Kamloops’ infrastructure.

As a Building Official II, you will play a pivotal role in review and approval of building permits, site inspections, enforcement of BC’s Building Code, City bylaws and much more! This highly technical position interacts with and provides professional guidance to many internal departments, developers, owners, contractors and other external agencies.

The successful candidate must have the following qualifications:

Please note, this Building Official II posting coincides with postings for a fully qualified Building Official III (2037). Our preference is to hire a fully qualified Building Official III. However, if there are no candidates deemed fully qualified, candidates for the Building Official II and Building Official I postings will be considered.

For new hires, and for those working in designated positions of trust, including those working directly with vulnerable persons, no formal offer of employment will be made until an applicant completes a police information check. A comprehensive benefits package is included with this position.

Hours & Days of Work

Monday – Friday 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM OR Modified Schedule 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM (day off every third week)
