Job summary

Cushman & Wakefield is seeking a Building Maintenance Technician to support operations at facilities, performing routine maintenance, minor repairs, and safety-focused tasks. The role requires flexibility for rotating shifts, a preventive maintenance mindset, and strong customer-service skills.

The successful candidate will handle mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical tasks, maintain tools, and ensure compliance with safety and contract standards.

Qualifications

• Must have at least a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Power Engineering ticket (4th/5th Class) preferred/required by some facilities.
• 1+ year of building operation or stationary engineer experience.
• Valid driver’s license is beneficial.
• Ability to obtain/maintain CPIC clearance as required by the client.
• Willingness to work rotating shifts including days, afternoons, evenings and weekends.
• Mechanically inclined with aptitude for minor repairs.
• Knowledge of applicable safety codes and incident investigation is advantageous.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills, customer-service oriented.

Responsibilities

• Respond to Help Desk and Lead Hand directions to address maintenance requests.
• Prioritize tasks to complete work on schedule and escalate major issues.
• Maintain tools and equipment; arrange repairs as needed.
• Follow safety practices and ensure work meets standards.
• Complete reports within required timelines.
• Document maintenance and repair activities per contract requirements.
• Manage customer relations and satisfaction.
• Inspect and repair facilities systems (mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, electrical).
• Perform routine inspections and low-level BMS adjustments as needed.

Job description

Building Maintenance Technician

The Building Operator takes direction from the Building Operator Lead Hand and is responsible for operation and maintenance functions at the Surrey Memorial Critical Care Hospital. The Building Operator performs a wide variety of maintenance, repair, minor alterations and service functions, operates and maintains designated buildings and related equipment, handles minor and major emergencies, maximizes predictive and preventative maintenance activities. The Building Operator will be required to work rotating shifts and be on-call for emergency call out as required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Respond to all calls as directed by the Help Desk, Building Operator Lead Hand or designate and/or Facility Manager
• Prioritize activities to complete work as scheduled and in a timely manner and refer major problems, either mechanical, technical or customer relations to lead hand for assistance.
• Maintain all service tools and equipment in good working condition and arrange for repair or replacement as required.
• Follow safe work practices and ensure work is performed in accordance with Customers and Contractor work standards.
• Complete reports and paperwork within required timelines.
• Follow safety guidelines and actively lead in establishing safe work plans.
• Plan and document maintenance and repair activity as per contractual requirements and relevant guidelines.
• Customer relationship management and satisfaction.
• Maintain and repair the following systems but not limited to:
• 1. General break downs and repairs of facilities mechanical, plumbing, HVAC electrical and building repairs internal and external.
• 2. Daily and Monthly visual Inspection and Preventive Maintenance of Facility Equipment.
• 3. Low level BMS interaction (adjusting set points, printing reports and isolation).

KEY COMPETENCIES

• High School diploma or GED.
• 4th or 5th Class Power Engineering Ticket.
• 1+ years building operation or stationary engineer experience.
• Valid driver's license is beneficial.
• Ability to obtain and maintain CPIC clearance in accordance with client requirements.
• Flexibility to work rotational shifts (days, afternoons, evenings and weekends)
• Mechanically inclined and possess an aptitude for minor building and systems repairs.
• Knowledge of work protection codes and accident investigation is beneficial.
• Achievement oriented and resourceful to meet service delivery goals.
• I ndependent worker / self-starter with a hands on/task oriented focus.
• Effective team player with excellent customer service skills, interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Fall Protection & MEWP tickets is beneficial.

The compensation that will be offered to the successful candidate will depend on factors such as whether the position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement, the geographic area in which the work will be performed, market pay rates in that area, and the candidate's experience and qualifications.

The company will not pay less than minimum wage for this role.
