Job summary

Abilities Centre in Whitby, ON is hiring a Building Cleaner on a part-time, hourly basis. The role involves maintaining a safe, clean facility, including floors, washrooms, and common areas, with duties to support events and facility upkeep.

Expect to work a mix of day and night shifts, earn $18.00–$19.00 per hour, and enjoy access to sport, fitness, and recreation facilities. Start date December 2026; two openings.

Qualifications

• Requires current, clear Vulnerable Sector Check.
• Valid First Aid and CPR (C / AED).
• Reliable transportation is required.
• Flexible availability for weekdays, evenings, and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a physical presence throughout the facility, keeping areas clean, stocked, and debris-free.
• Reduce slip and fall hazard risk through proper upkeep.
• Sweep, mop, scrub, wash windows, disinfect washrooms and fixtures, and clean carpets and upholstery.
• Perform event cleaning and assist with setup and teardown of furniture and fixtures.
• Follow all company policies and perform duties to high professional standards.

Building Cleaner

Location: 1 Jim Flaherty St., Whitby, ON

Assignment: Part-time, Hourly

Pay Rate: $18.00 per hour for day shifts; $19.00 per hour for night shifts. We also offer access to our superb sport, fitness, and recreational facilities.

The Position:

Reporting to the Director, Facilities, the Building Cleaner maintains a healthy and safe environment at Abilities Centre through outstanding cleanliness.

What You’ll Do:

Maintain

• You will maintain a physical presence throughout the facility, ensuring that areas are kept clean, fully stocked, and free of debris.
• You will maintain the complex in a manner which reduces the complex's liability for Slip and Fall Hazards.

Clean

• You will sweep, mop, scrub, remove debris dirt and any refuse, empty waste containers, wash windows, interior/exterior walls, clean and disinfect washroom and fixtures.
• You will clean carpets, rugs, mats, and upholstered furniture.
• You will scrub, mop, and wax floors as required or as scheduled by the Director, Facilities, or designate.

Event Support

• You will perform event cleaning and support the setup and take down of all associated furniture and fixtures.

Professionalism

• You will comply with all company rules, regulations, policies, and procedures at all times.
• You will perform all duties in accordance with the highest professional standards at all times.
• You will perform other duties as required by the Director, Facilities, or designate.

What You Bring:

Energy and Experience

• This job is in a large building and will include movement such as bending, stooping, crawling, pushing, and lifting/moving equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
• This job supports the health and safety of the organization and will require knowledge and application of W.H.M.I.S.
• Having previous experience cleaning and using auto scrubbers / floor cleaning machines is considered an asset.
