Job summary

M’akola Housing Society in Sooke, BC is hiring a full-time Caretaker to manage building maintenance, safety checks, and minor repairs across multiple properties. You will support with unit turnovers, inspections, and on-site presence, while responding to after-hours calls as part of a team.

A valid driver’s license and reliability are required. The role emphasizes respectful engagement with Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities, with a focus on professional representation and service quality

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in building maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, or carpentry (no ticket required).
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to relay information calmly, politely and respectfully to community members.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Perform regular building checks across properties in the region to meet M’akola quality standards.
  • Pick up garbage around buildings and post notices as needed.
  • Maintain basic building mechanical systems and assist with unit turnovers and inspections.
  • Participate in on-call rotations for after-hours calls.
  • Perform minor repairs in units and buildings (touch up painting, drywall patching, recalking).
