Job summary

Honeywell Building Automation Engineer position located in Burnaby, BC, focusing on technical support, maintenance, and client services. You will report to the Senior Field Service Supervisor and work primarily at client sites across Burnaby and surrounding areas.

You will promote preventive maintenance, assist in service or installation projects, and pursue opportunities for contract renewals. Travel is approximately 80%–90%, with on-call duties and RFI/RFS quoting responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years hands-on experience in design, implementation, commissioning, troubleshooting and maintenance of BAS/Enterprise Applications.
  • 1-3 years hands-on experience in BAS technologies (HVAC/BMS, CCTV, Security, Energy Management).
  • 1-3 years hands-on networking (TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, VPN, firewalls).
  • 1-3 years troubleshooting connectivity between servers, controllers and devices using diag tools.

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships and manage projects.
  • Understand and troubleshoot BACnet, Modbus, LON, and other protocols.

Job description

As the Building Automation Engineer at Honeywell, your main responsibility will be to provide technical support and services to our clients. This includes diagnosing and troubleshooting equipment problems, performing repairs and maintenance, and ensuring customer satisfaction. Your expertise and attention to detail will be essential in delivering high-quality service and maintaining strong relationships with our clients.

You will report directly to the Senior Field Service Supervisor of the Digital Solutions team and will primarily work at client sites in the Burnaby, BC and surrounding areas.

In this role, you will significantly influence the success of our clients by ensuring the reliable operation of their equipment and systems. You will also contribute to the growth of the company by identifying opportunities for service contract renewals and proposing additional services.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Promote, establish, and maintain strong relationships with clients.
  • Understand, implement, and troubleshoot building network topologies, including but not limited to BACnet, Cbus, Modbus, and LON.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on various servers and workstations of the central management system (backups, cleaning, and updates).
  • Ensure that all assigned preventive maintenance tasks are completed on time and within the scheduled month.
  • Implement and maintain integrative systems in a cybersecurity environment.
  • Verify functional performance to ensure proper operation in accordance with contractual requirements, using plans, workshop operation sequences, and other relevant documents.
  • Manage client projects and/or participate in service or installation work delivery, including but not limited to engineering, plan creation, programming, documentation, installation, subcontractor management, commissioning, testing, and client acceptance. Collaborate with the local engineer to understand the scope of work, as well as the materials, software, graphics, and construction details required.
  • Stay informed about new technologies, industry changes, and product developments.
  • Collaborate closely with dispatch and clients to meet their and the organization’s expectations.
  • Perform certain tasks outside normal working hours as needed.
  • Respond to emergency calls and be on call as needed.
  • Provide quotes to clients in response to requests for information (RFI) and requests for services (RFS).
  • Provide training to clients and team members.
  • Document all work according to established standards and ensure follow‑up and maintenance of documentation.
  • Adhere to Honeywell performance indicators and comply with workplace health and safety standards.
YOU MUST HAVE
  • Minimum 1-3 years of hands‑on experience in the design, implementation, commissioning, troubleshooting and maintenance of Building Automation Systems (BAS), Enterprise Applications and/or Connected Services.
  • Minimum 1-3 years of hands‑on experience in building automation technologies and associated enterprise applications (HVAC/BMS, DVM/CCTV, Building Security, Energy Management, OBS).
  • Minimum 1-3 years of hands‑on experience with TCP/IP/UDP networking, including VLANs and network segmentation, switching and routing fundamentals, default gateways and static routes, DHCP, DNS, NAT, firewalls and firewall rules, VPN/remote‑access concepts, and network ports/services.
  • Minimum 1-3 years of hands on experience with troubleshooting to diagnose connectivity and communication problems between servers, controllers, workstations, field devices and third‑party systems utilizing various diagnostics tools (ping, tracert/traceroute, ARP, nslookup, netstat, command‑line or PowerShell tools, packet captures, and Wireshark or equivalent tools).
  • Minimum 1-3 years of hands‑on experience of industry‑standard communication and integration protocols, including BACnet/IP, BACnet MS/TP, Modbus TCP/RTU, OPC, SNMP, APIs and Web Services.
  • Minimum 1-3 years of experience with MS Windows and server OS environments, including installation, configuration and troubleshooting of applications and services.
  • College Diploma or bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as Automation, Controls, Electronics, Networking, Information Technology, Engineering or Computer Science, or equivalent relevant technical experience.
  • Valid Driver's License is required due to the travel requirements of this role, which includes visiting customers sites approximately 80% to 90% of the time.

  • Understanding of client/server architectures, databases, Web Services, third‑party IoT technologies and enterprise application integration.
  • Familiarity with scripting or automation tools such as PowerShell is considered an asset.
  • Excellent technical documentation and technical writing skills.
  • Demonstrated experience organizing and directing work activities according to priorities and meeting deadlines involving multiple systems, projects, stakeholders and vendors.
  • Proven track record in project engineering or technical delivery capacity involving the design, implementation and commissioning of technology-based projects, including Design and Construct projects.
  • Ability to plan and schedule large or complex projects and to deliver against multiple concurrent objectives.
  • Understanding Honeywell Building Technologies products and applications (BMS, Security, CCTV/DVM, EBI and related enterprise applications) is considered a strong asset.
  • Willingness and ability to develop extensive product knowledge through formal training and hands‑on/on‑the‑job experience with current Honeywell technologies.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and provide technical guidance and direction in a team environment.
  • Ability to identify technical solutions that address customers' operational and business needs.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.

The annual base salary range for this position is $98,000 to $105,000. Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline.
