Job description

Under the direction of the Director of Care, the BSO PSW is responsible for providing optimal care to promote the well-being of each resident. The role involves participating in nursing services to meet assessed needs, delivering person-centered care that recognizes individual uniqueness and self-awareness of personal attitudes, values, and actions. Responsibilities include conducting assessments and interventions related to residents' behaviors.

The following traits and qualifications are required:

  • Must possess a PSW Certificate Program with a minimum of 600 hours, including class and practical experience, or be a grandfathered PSW under the Fixing Long Term Care Act, 2021, ss. 79 and Ontario Regulation ss. 52/22 (1).
  • Alternatively, enrollment in an RN or RPN program, or a diploma/certificate from another jurisdiction with at least 600 hours, with the Director of Nursing's approval of skills and knowledge.
  • Knowledge of dementia, delirium, and mental health issues, including types, causes, disease progression, assessment, symptoms, treatments, communication strategies, and quality of life promotion.
  • Possession of GPA, U-First, and Palliative Care Certifications.
  • Strong communication skills and a demonstrated interest in ongoing education.
  • Experience in long-term care (gerontology) is an asset.
