Job summary

Wolseley Canada is seeking a purchasing professional to manage external vendor relationships, review items for purchase, and collaborate with branch sales teams to optimize procurement. You will handle special orders, data entry, and supplier expediting while ensuring adherence to policies and safety rules.

The role emphasizes inventory control, identifying surplus or return opportunities, and applying intelligent buying decisions within a dynamic supply chain environment.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education with minimum two years' related purchasing experience.
  • Knowledge of purchasing, warehouse and inventory control policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates intelligent buying decisions.
  • Understanding of freight and transportation considerations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; highly organized and able to multi-task.

Responsibilities

  • Purchase items across assigned lines and manage external vendor relationships.
  • Collaborate with branch sales teams to ensure efficient procurement.
  • Handle special orders and expedite from vendors and distribution centers.
  • Data entry for purchase orders and basic reporting.
  • Identify inventory opportunities, surpluses, or returns and optimize landed cost.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies and safety rules; support physical inventory.

What you will do:
  • Display the ability to understand all lines assigned to purchase and handle full load of external vendors.
  • Knowledgeable of the following practices and philosophies of Wolseley Canada
  • Review items for purchase; propose change opportunities as identified
  • Purchasing product; collaboration with branch sales teams - Keep change only.
  • Special order handling and effective expediting from the vendor and DC
  • Efficiently data entry of purchase orders
  • Display ability to identify areas for improvement and develop solutions
  • Inventory management skills, including:
  • Identify surplus / return opportunities
  • Understanding of penalties and exemptions
  • Ability to understand the delicate balance between investments, service levels, turns and landed cost
  • Special reporting as requested
  • Consistently displays a customer service attitude toward the branches and develops a rapport with branch contacts.
  • Represent the company in a professional manner at all times ensuring quality customer service
  • Professional collaboration with Supply Chain; follow PO's through to completion. Add
  • Abide by all policies, rules, and regulations of the company including all applicable safety rules, regulations and procedures
  • Assistance during physical inventory
  • Assist with other administrative duties as required
What you will bring:
  • Post-Secondary education plus a minimum of two (2) years related experience in purchasing, or the equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Thorough working knowledge of purchasing, warehouse and inventory control policies, processes and procedures;
  • Demonstrates intelligent buying decisions
  • Good freight / transportation understanding
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated success working in a team environment;
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written;
  • Highly organized in prioritizing work and multi-tasking
