Qualifications

  • Post-Secondary preferred in Human and Social Services
  • Minimum of three years experience in Human Services field and/or working with people with ABI
  • CPR, First Aid and CPI certifications are assets
  • Proven consistency in work performance, reliability and flexibility
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills
  • Sound behavioral management skills, cognitive problem-solving skills
  • Proven teamwork abilities
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English
  • Ability to work flexible and regularly scheduled hours

Responsibilities

  • Assists consumers in their own homes with non-medical activities of daily living per service plans.
  • Provides personal care, transfers, meals, and daily living support with privacy and dignity.
  • Performs duties professionally and ensures health and safety.
  • Maintains reporting responsibilities (incident reports, behavioral data, verbal reports).
  • Participates in required training and follows policies and procedures.
  • Delivers one-to-one and group support in home and community for adults with ABI.
  • Communicates with consumer, family and team members; supports flexible hours.

Whether their disability is physical, the result of brain injury, or aging, our more than 2,000 team members assist clients in their homes and across communities, to live as independently as possible.

The opportunity

We are currently looking to fill 1 new opportunity for a Full-Time Brain Injury Support Worker (Rehabilitation)/Personal Support Workerin Halifax, NS.

Flexible schedule: Includes mornings (7am to 3pm), evenings (3pm to 11pm), overnights (awake 11pm to 7am), weekdays, weekends and holidays.

Hours: Full-time hours.

Starting wage: $19.63 per hour

Responsibilities

  • Assists consumers in their own homes with non-medical activities of daily living in accordance with individual service plans and with March of Dimes Canada policies and procedures:
    • Personal care
    • Lifts and Transfers
    • Rising/retiring
    • Bowel and bladder procedures
    • Meal preparation and feeding
    • Range of motion exercises
    • Other light housekeeping duties
  • Performs duties in a professional manner, which respects the dignity and right to privacy and maintains consumer and staff health and safety.
  • Reporting responsibilities (incident reports, behavioral data collection and verbal reports)
  • Participate in any required training.
  • Follow policies and procedures as required.
  • Provide one to one support and group support within the home and community to adults with an Acquired Brain Injury with activities of daily living, personal care, and rehabilitation planning.
  • Communicate with consumer, family, and team members.
  • To provide services on a flexible basis including evenings and weekends.


Qualifications and experience

  • Post-Secondary preferred in Human and Social Services
  • Minimum of three years experience in Human Services field and/or working with people with ABI
  • Current CARE, Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) and CPR, First Aid an asset
  • Proven consistency in work performance, including reliability and flexibility
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills
  • Sound behavioral management skills, cognitive problem-solving skills
  • Proven teamwork abilities
  • Working knowledge of ABI and rehabilitation
  • Ability to effectively deal with behavioral situations
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English
  • Ability to work flexible and regularly scheduled hours
