Upliv seeks a part-time bookkeeper to support the financial management of individuals in the Direct Funding program. Job description

Upliv is a purpose-built care management platform for people with disabilities and their families who self-manage homecare. Our mission is to empower independent living with tools that make care coordination easier, more transparent, and fully compliant with program requirements.

About the Role:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced bookkeeper to support a Self-Manager participating in Ontario's Direct Funding (DF) program. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of the DF program’s financial requirements and be proficient in managing payroll and related financial tasks in compliance with provincial regulations.

This role is critical in helping individuals with disabilities maintain their independence by ensuring the smooth operation of their home care services. The bookkeeper plays a key part in enabling participants to meet program obligations and retain control over their care.

Key Responsibilities:

Biweekly Payroll Management:

  • Process biweekly payroll for attendant staff.
  • Calculate and remit source deductions, including Canada Pension Plan (CPP), Employment Insurance (EI), and income tax, to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).
  • Ensure timely remittance of employer portions of CPP and EI contributions.
  • Prepare and submit quarterly Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) remittances, ensuring compliance with DF program requirements.

Year-End Reporting:

  • Prepare and issue T4 slips and summaries for all employees.
  • Ensure accurate and timely submission of T4 information to CRA.

Record Keeping:

  • Maintain organized records of all financial transactions, including:
  • Employee time sheets and pay stubs.
  • Bank statements and reconciliations.
  • TD1 and TD1ON forms for all employees.
  • Records of Employment (ROEs) as required.
  • Ensure all records are kept confidential and in compliance with DF program guidelines.

Compliance and Reporting:

  • Stay updated on DF program policies and provincial employment laws, including the Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and Human Rights Code.
  • Assist in preparing quarterly financial reports as required by the DF program.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in bookkeeping, preferably with familiarity in the Direct Funding program in Ontario.
  • Strong understanding of payroll processes, source deductions, and year-end reporting.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with Self-Managers in the DF program.
  • Knowledge of WSIB remittance processes and requirements.
  • Familiarity with CRA’s Payroll Deductions Online Calculator and other relevant tools.
