Auto Body Collision Repair: Body Technician

The Body Technician is a skilled craftsman responsible for restoring automobiles with light to heavy damage through collision repair. Key responsibilities include assessing exterior damage, repairing according to manufacturer guidelines, ensuring the availability of necessary parts, reshaping panels with minor damage, and applying welding and refinishing techniques as needed.

Job Responsibilities
  1. Ensure repairs meet OE standards, DRP part choices, and ADAS calibration and scanning requirements, verifying quality and safety.
  2. Complete vehicle disassembly and reassembly.
  3. Refit new parts such as bumpers, fenders, grills, and moldings.
  4. Restore repaired areas to the original manufacturer’s specifications, including door, hood, deck alignments, chassis, and frame measurements, and welded on unibody parts.
  5. Check all parts for accuracy before starting repairs and notify the Estimator of discrepancies.
  6. Work efficiently to meet target delivery dates.
  7. Take responsibility for all parts assigned to your jobs.
  8. Protect vehicle interiors and exteriors from additional damage during repairs.
  9. Read and understand each vehicle’s Repair Order (RO) and visually inspect vehicles for completeness.
  10. Guide and assist apprentices to support their development.
Key Performance Metrics
  • Customer Service Index Score of 95+ for Quality, Timeliness, and NPS.
Skills / Qualifications
  • I-CAR Gold Class and ASE certifications are a plus.
  • Comprehensive understanding of light to heavy collision repair.
  • Knowledge of safety guidelines.
  • Skilled in welding, panel removal, and refitting.
  • Ability to follow written instructions and work independently or with others efficiently.

  • Perform responsibilities according to SOPs.
  • Maintain a clean, organized workspace following 5S principles.
  • Participate in ongoing training to stay current with technical skills.
  • Extend working hours as needed to meet workload and customer needs.
