Job summary

Women’s Health Clinic in Winnipeg is seeking a Medical Assistant/Birth Centre Assistant to provide program and client service support in accordance with WHC policies. The role includes reception, clinical support to practitioners, EMR entries and scheduling, with bilingual capacity in English/French desirable.

Hours are 8 or 10 per day, in-person shifts including days, evenings and weekends. The position reports to the Team Leader, Abortion, Birth Centre and Medical Program, under a casual FTE

Qualifications

• Completion of high school or equivalent.
• Bilingual positions may require proficiency in listening and speaking in both official languages (French and English).

Responsibilities

• Provide welcoming and inclusive reception and registration services to clients and visitors of WHC.
• Maintain WHC security systems and procedures and manage disturbances or crises in the reception area.
• Provide health information relevant to clients and their support people and make referrals to other services.
• Conduct brief assessments to intake clients and enter client information into the EMR.
• Provide clinical support to practitioners by completing tasks and document management in the EMR.
• Create, update and maintain practitioner appointment templates and schedule appointments.
• Support and organize client access to the WRHA Language Access Program.
• Prepare and clean clinical areas and rooms before and after each client/group.
• Handle infection control and safety guidelines; dispose of waste and specimens.
• Assist practitioners in escorting clients to service areas and provide site orientation.
• Collect and data enter statistical information for program planning and evaluation.
• Assist with orientation/training of staff and students.
• Handle cash, debit, credit cards and receipts.
• Provide on-call clinical services support evenings, weekends and overnight (if required).
