Biostatistician Duties include:

Build collaborative relationships within the Department to analyse statistical issues and quantitative methodologies, and extend the application of statistics in the Department.

Plan, develop, and implement statistical analyses, including policies, guidelines, operating procedures, data management plans, and training to ensure consistency in statistical analyses.

Provide expert advice and consultative services to senior managers and researchers in the Department concerning technical aspects of statistical design, statistical concepts, methods and interpretations of statistical data.

Develop and/or modify methods and techniques to ensure that experimental and replication designs are able to provide results that are statistically valid and to improve the quality, reliability and appropriateness of data and conclusions.

Design and develop data collection strategies, statistical approaches, models and techniques for use in laboratory research.

Provide recommendations to improve existing data management strategies, and develop new methods of producing and evaluating data.

Develop reports, technical documents and briefing notes for senior managers, summarizing the findings of studies and providing conclusions to be used to support evidence-based decision making.

Work environment

The work is performed entirely on site, in office and laboratory environments in Winnipeg, where the latter may involve standing for up to 3 hours per day while conducting analyses. None of the work can be done remotely.

There is handling and exposure risk to grain/grain dust, biological agents, chemicals, and toxic substances in the laboratory.

Education:
• Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a natural, physical or applied science with specialization in Computational Biology/Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computer Sciences, Mathematics/Statistics, or Biological Sciences, or another specialization relevant to the duties of the position.

Experience:
• At least two years of experience in statistical data analysis.
• Experience in data management.
• Experience working in a multidisciplinary team.
• Experience using Linux/Unix.
• Experience in coding languages and/or statistical software packages (Python, “R”, Perl, SAS, or equivalent).

Education:
• A master’s or doctoral degree (M.Sc or Ph.D/D.Sc) from a recognized post-secondary institution with specialization in Computational Biology/Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computer Sciences, Mathematics/Statistics, or Biological Sciences, or another specialization relevant to the duties of the position.

Experience:
• Experience in bioinformatics, genomics and/or analysis of next generation sequencing
data.
• Experience in machine-learning algorithms.
• Experience in Linux/Unix system administration and system monitoring.
• Experience in data visualization.
• Experience at giving training.
• Experience working on different projects simultaneously.

The following will be applied / assessed at a later date (essential for the job)
