We’ve built a strong reputation for delivering practical, science-based solutions within the complex and evolving environmental industry. With a team of over 75 dedicated professionals, we provide comprehensive reclamation and environmental services to upstream oil and gas clients across Alberta and Saskatchewan.

At RREC, we value collaboration, technical excellence, and professional growth. We offer a supportive, team-based working environment with flexible work arrangements, competitive compensation, and a comprehensive benefits package—including health and dental coverage, RRSP matching, and professional development support. Our employees are encouraged to advance their skills through continuing education, competency training, and active involvement in professional organizations.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking an experienced and motivated Biophysical Program Manager to lead and expand our biophysical services team. This role is ideal for a senior environmental professional with a strong background in wetland ecology and Alberta’s regulatory landscape.

The successful candidate will bring extensive experience in biophysical assessments, wetland regulatory submissions, and team leadership. This is a dynamic position offering a hybrid of field and office work, technical leadership, project oversight, and business development responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage biophysical projects including wetland, watercourse, wildlife, and vegetation assessments
  • Provide technical and regulatory guidance to internal teams and clients in Alberta
  • Lead regulatory submissions under the Water Act and Alberta Wetland Policy, including wetland delineation, classification, impact assessment, mitigation planning, and permitting
  • Oversee project planning, scheduling, staffing, and deliverables
  • Prepare and/or senior review technical reports, work plans, proposals, and cost estimates
  • Support business development activities and maintain client relationships
  • Mentor and support the growth of junior staff
  • Assist with multidisciplinary environmental projects as needed

Qualifications and Experience

  • Post-secondary degree in Ecology, Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Resource Management, or a related discipline
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in environmental consulting or wetland ecology
  • Accreditation as an Authenticating Wetland Practitioner (AWP) and/or Qualified Aquatic Environmental Specialist (QAES)
  • Strong understanding of Alberta’s environmental regulatory frameworks, including the Water Act, Alberta Wetland Policy, and Public Lands Act
  • Proven experience preparing and submitting Wetland Assessment and Impact Forms (WAIF), Wetland Assessment and Impact Reports (WAIR), and using the Wetland Rapid Evaluation Tool
  • Experience conducting a broad variety of wetlands-specific scopes of work in both pre-construction and construction settings
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and execute field programs in remote and challenging environments
  • Advanced proficiency in plant identification and ecological classification
  • Strong technical writing skills, with experience as a senior reviewer and authenticating professional
  • Project management experience is an asset
  • Experience with watercourse crossing assessments is considered an advantage

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary and benefits package
  • Flexible work arrangements including hybrid office/field roles
  • A supportive and collaborative work environment
  • Professional development and leadership opportunities
  • Diverse and engaging project work across Alberta
