Job summary

Alberta Health Services is seeking a Biomedical Equipment Technologist II for a 1-year temporary position in the Department of Clinical Engineering. The BMET II will provide assurance testing, maintenance and repair of complex medical devices, working either independently or with the clinical team.

Responsibilities include prioritizing work, managing workload, and participating in on-call support as required.

Qualifications

• Completion of a two year diploma in Biomedical Engineering Technology from an accredited Institute of Technology.
• 3 years' experience in acute health care setting.
• Experience in critical care settings and operating room environment; vendor training/certification on devices such as ventilators, ultrasounds, microscopes, lasers, heart-lung machines or anesthesia gas machines.

• Provide assurance testing, maintenance and repair of complex medical, biomedical and electronic devices or systems.
• Manage workload, prioritize and schedule assigned tasks; participate in on-call and after-hours support as required.
• Support clinically applied medical devices and systems in accordance with CSA standards, manufacturer recommendations and accreditation requirements.

Job description

This is a 1-year temporary position with the possibility of extension in the Department of Clinical Engineering. TheBiomedical Technologist II is responsible for the management of technology and support of clinically applied medicaldevices and systems. The technologist must possess comprehensive knowledge of clinical practices, procedures, andequipment along with a strong understanding of anatomy and physiology. Working independently or collaboratively as partof the clinical team, the technologist provides customer support, performs performance assurance testing, and carries outthe maintenance and repair of complex medical, biomedical, and electronic equipment and systems. All responsibilitiesare completed in accordance with CSA standards, manufacturer recommendations, departmental procedures, andaccreditation requirements. Additional responsibilities include prioritizing and scheduling assigned work, managingworkload effectively and performing other related duties as required. Biomedical Technologists are also expected toparticipate in on-call and after-hours support based on operational requirements.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of a two year diploma in Biomedical Engineering Technology from an accredited Institute of Technology.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Experience in critical care settings and operating room environment as well as vendor training/certification on deviceslike ventilators, ultrasounds, microscopes, lasers, heart lung machines or anesthesia gas machines. Will also considercandidates with an alternate equivalent diploma or higher associated degree from an accredited institution. 3 years'experience in acute health care setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

Healthcare IT knowledge such as networking (including various protocols and associated hardware), applicationinterfaces, antivirus/encryption, and experience with computerized maintenance management software and medicaldiagnostic software.
