Job summary

The City of Red Deer is seeking a Parks Labourer 2 to support the Parks system with labour, construction, horticultural, snow and equipment maintenance. You will lead and coordinate Reclamation and Vegetation crews and contribute to GIS data updates for parks operations, with winter snow removal responsibilities.

Ideal candidates have Grade 10, 1.5+ years in related fields, Alberta Class 5 license, and First Aid.

Qualifications

Grade 10 with 1.5+ years related experience in parks/landscaping.
Alberta Class 5 Driver's License; air brake endorsement is an asset.
Standard First Aid course.
Ability to operate and maintain Parks vehicles/equipment.
Ability to work outdoors in all weather.
Ability to follow safety policies/procedures in high public-use areas.
Knowledge of Parks/Public Works procedures or equivalent.
Basic understanding of design guidelines and contract specs.
Experience mentoring staff and working as a team.
Ability to use computers/tablets for email, time entry and safety documents.
Commit to RISE principles and 9 Core Competencies.

Responsibilities

Provide guidance and training to Parks Labourers; perform labour, maintenance and construction tasks.
Operate fleet vehicles/equipment; conduct pre-use checks and maintenance; train team members.
Support efficiency through cost-saving ideas; report performance to Foreperson.
Communicate with public/contractors; adjust operations to minimize impacts.
Order, receive and disperse parts; handle time entry and required documentation; coordinate deliveries.
