Job summary

The Ottawa Police Service is seeking a Police Communicator to dispatch calls for service, coordinate with officers, and ensure public safety across the Ottawa region. The role requires calm handling of 9-1-1 and non-emergency calls, information entry in CAD, and coordination with field units.

Applicants should have a Grade 12 or equivalent with 1 year of related experience; bilingual English/French is required, with formal CPIC/CAD knowledge and on-the-job training provided.

Qualifications

• Secondary School Graduate – Grade 12 or equivalent plus one (1) year post secondary education.
• Experience and formal training combined may substitute for stipulated education requirements.
• Minimum one (1) year of experience in roles requiring strong communication and public interaction skills.

Responsibilities

• Receive calls and complaints from 9-1-1, OPS emergency and non-emergency lines.
• Dispatch units to calls for service and update information in CAD and radio.
• Maintain officer safety and provide backup in potentially dangerous situations.
• Monitor air traffic, prioritize calls, and generate calls for service in CAD.
• Assist field units and coordinate with outside agencies as required.
• Train or assist in training new Communication Center personnel.
• Liaise with outside agencies and coordinate deployment of resources.
