Job summary

Sun Life, a leading Canadian insurer, seeks a Director of Advanced Underwriting - Mentorship to lead a high-caliber team handling ultra-high net worth cases up to $200 million. You will mentor peers, partner with case managers, advisors and reinsurers to assess medical, personal and financial risk, and drive Excellence in risk assessment across Canada.

The role reports to the Chief Underwriter and Claims Risk Officer.

Qualifications

• Proven analytical, judgement, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Client and results focused with proactive service orientation.
• Ability to influence and negotiate with stakeholders.
• Strong knowledge of medical and financial risk factors.
• 10–15 years of experience as an Individual Life Underwriter.

Responsibilities

• Analyze insurance applications and evidence of insurability.
• Apply holistic underwriting expertise across medical, financial and lifestyle factors.
• Negotiate decisions with reinsurers per treaties and internal rules.
• Explain decisions to advisors and Clients’ physicians as required.
• Build relationships with leaders, distribution teams and advisors while delivering service.
• Identify continuous improvement opportunities and propose solutions.
• Foster teamwork, innovation and professional development.
• Attend and contribute to regular HNW case reviews to share knowledge.
• Mentor employees to reach next career levels.
