Primary Objectives:

As a Cyber Underwriter, you will drive new business growth, build broker relationships, and underwrite Cyber insurance products focusing on profitability. Your main responsibilities include underwriting and pricing new opportunities, collaborating with business development teams to support client acquisition, and expanding our market presence.

You will contribute to the growth of personal and commercial cyber insurance portfolios, engage in impactful projects, and support product development. Your customer-focused, agile, and innovative approach will help maintain our leadership in the specialty insurance market. This role reports to the AVP of Cyber Practice within HSB's Cyber business unit and plays a key role in shaping our cyber insurance offerings.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Develop expertise in the cyber insurance market, including industry trends, competitor activity, and emerging threats.
  2. Provide technical underwriting guidance to support portfolio growth.
  3. Underwrite and price policies for SME and mid-market clients, aligned with risk appetite.
  4. Build and maintain strong broker and client relationships to drive new business.
  5. Partner with regional BDMs to onboard brokers supporting direct insurance growth.
  6. Use underwriting tools, data, and threat intelligence for risk assessment.
  7. Collaborate with actuarial and risk teams on guidelines and product development.
  8. Negotiate policy terms within authority guidelines.
  9. Represent the Cyber team at industry events, sharing market insights.
  10. Structure and negotiate tailored underwriting solutions.
  11. Monitor and optimize portfolio performance, implementing corrective actions as needed.
  12. Foster cross-team collaboration to support initiatives.
  13. Identify and develop new product opportunities.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Insurance, Business, or related; certifications like FCIP or CPCU preferred.
  2. French language proficiency is preferred for candidates in Quebec.
  3. 5+ years of Cyber or professional liability underwriting experience, focusing on new business.
  4. Strong relationship management skills, especially with brokers and BDMs.
  5. Existing broker relationships in Quebec are an asset.
  6. Proven collaboration skills across departments.
  7. Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
  8. Ability to work independently and in teams, with a proactive mindset.
