Job summary

The Surrey Early Speech and Language Program (SESLP) seeks a dedicated Behavioural Interventionist to deliver one-to-one intervention plans for children with ASD and related behaviours. Reporting to the Behavioural Consultant, you will implement programs developed by a multidisciplinary team and support families across home and school settings.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or diploma/certificate in Human Services field; ECE preferred.
• College diploma or bachelor’s degree preferred in Psychology, Education, CYC, Social Work, or related fields.
• Training in Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA) required or preferred.

1.0 FTE Behavioural Interventionist Position (one positions); required ASAP

Position Title

Behavioural Interventionist

Reports To

Behavioural Consultant, Surrey Early Speech and Language Program (SESLP).

Job Summary

The Behaviour Interventionist (BI) works under the overall supervision of the Executive Director and the Program Coordinator of the Surrey Early Speech and Language Program (SESLP) but will report directly to the Behavioural Consultant. The Behavioural Interventionist implements a one-to-one intervention program, developed by a multidisciplinary team, for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and with kids with significant behaviours due to ADD or significant social-emotional regulation issues.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate and maintain a positive and professional relationship with clients and their families, all members of the organization’s staff and volunteers, government ministries and community partners.
• Adheres to the philosophy, policies, and procedures of the B.C. Family Hearing Resource Society as well as CARF Accreditation Standards.
• Provides behavioural support services for children with communication disorders age birth to school entry.
• Provides behavioral education and support services to families with children who have communication disorders and ASD as requested in coordination with the program coordinator and behavioural consultant.
• Prepares home and preschool programs for individual clients as appropriate.
• Functions as part of the team of the Centre.
• Attends designated staff meetings at the Centre, prepares reports, maintains progress records and maintains statistics for the Client Information Management System.
• Assumes responsibility for professional development and growth.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Working Conditions

• Work may occur at SESLP office, in homes, or community settings,
• Travel between client locations may be required.
• Flexible scheduling, including occasional evenings or weekends, may be necessary.

Salary Range

$47,320 - $50,960

(Please note: The BC Family Hearing Resource Society is a publicly funded position working with the pediatric population and qualifies for participation in the B.C. Loan Forgiveness Program).

Education requirements/Qualifications

• A high school diploma or post-secondary training in the Human Service Field, with a preference for Early Childhood Education is required.
• A college diploma or bachelor’s degree is preferred in fields:
  • Psychology
  • Education
  • Child and Youth Care
  • Social Work
  • Behaviour Analysis
  • Speech-Language Pathology (or related fields).
• Training in Applied Behavioural Analysis.
• An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
• An original copy of the University transcript confirming completion of the required training must be provided (CARF accreditation requires all transcripts be sent directly to us).
• Standard First Aid/CPR-C/AED Certificate

Work experience/other requirements

• Several years experience working with young children with developmental disabilities.
• Valid BC Driver’s License / Access to reliable transportation

Other Requirements

• Well-developed interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, especially with regard to data collection and reporting.
• Ability to take direction and to follow planned programs.
• Ability to identify priorities, organize work and carry out the duties of the position with independence.
• Ability to follow instruction and to work cooperatively and effectively in the centre, a child’s home or in a childcare environment.
• General understanding and knowledge of computers, data entry and Microsoft Office products.
