Job summary

Monarch House in Surrey, BC is seeking a Behaviour Interventionist to implement programs under a clinical team, supporting children and youth with complex needs in 1:1 or small group settings. This role is part-time, hourly, and community-based in Surrey.

The position starts at $21–$23 per hour. Candidates need 1–2 years of relevant experience, appropriate studies, a clear background check, and a valid driver’s license with reliable vehicle. LMIA not offered.

Qualifications

  • 1–2 years experience with children and youth with complex needs.
  • Pursuing or completed studies in psychology, speech/linguistics, occupational therapy or kinesiology.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening within the last 6 months.
  • Strong verbal and written English communication.
  • Legally allowed to work in Canada with a valid Class 5 driver’s license and a reliable vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Implement programs based on best practices.
  • Use systematic methods and behavioral strategies to support client in changing their behaviour.
  • Develop programs to teach and reinforce skills for children and youth in 1:1 or small group settings.
  • Understand functions of behavior and respond safely when situations arise.
  • Adhere to clinical training procedures and protocols.
  • Adapt to changing conditions and provide creative solutions.
  • Create a positive and engaging environment for the client.
  • Support clients with personal care tasks such as dressing, toileting, and eating.
  • Maintain the well-being and safety of clients.

Job description

As a Behaviour Interventionist (BI) at Monarch House your primary responsibility is implementing programs designed and supervised by a senior clinical team (of speech pathologists, by a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst® BCBAs, Occupational therapists and physical therapists) to clients receiving services from Monarch House. You will work within an interdisciplinary team to support skill acquisition and/or decrease maladaptive behaviors while providing an engaging and positive client experience in a fast paced and frequently changing environment.

Please note that we do not offer LMIA or independent contractor setup

Work setup: Part-time, hourly. Community-based in Surrey area

Salary: starting at $21-23/hr

Work schedule: Monday - Saturday, pending client availability

  • Responsible for implementing programs based on best practices.
  • Uses systematic methods and behavioural strategies to support client in changing their behaviour
  • Contributes to the development of programs established by the clinical team to teach and reinforce a variety of skills for children and youth in a 1:1 and/or small group setting
  • Understand the functions of behavior and responds appropriately and safely when situations arise
  • Adhere to all clinical training, procedures, and protocols
  • Ability to adapt to changing conditions and/or routine and provide creative solutions
  • Responsible for creating a positive and engaging environment for the client
  • Support clients with personal care tasks such as dressing, toileting, and eating
  • Responsible for maintaining the well-being and safety
Here is what you will need to be successful
  • 1-2 years experience working with children and youth with complex needs and/or developmental disabilities
  • Pursuing or completed education in Psychology, Speech or linguistics, occupational therapy or kinesiology.
  • Education and demonstrated ability in ethical and professional practice
  • Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening within the last 6 months
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills
  • A valid driver's license (Class 5)and reliable vehicle for daily use
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum 1 year experience working in client homes is a plus
  • Enrollment in or degree from a post-secondary program of Psychology, Educational Psychology, Special Education or another related field is an asset
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder specific coursework, training or workshops an asset
  • Experience working with clients who have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder or other developmental disabilities
