Job summary

Sunwest is seeking a Captain for the Beechcraft 1900 to lead safe, efficient operations and deliver an exceptional passenger experience. You’ll set the tone for professionalism on every leg and champion our Safety Management System in day-to-day decisions.

In this role you will exercise Pilot-in-Command authority, plan and conduct flights, mentor your crew, coordinate with dispatch and maintenance, and provide attentive service to passengers. Travel to the United States for training is required.

Job description

The opportunity

As a Captain on the Beechcraft 1900, you will lead safe, efficient operations while delivering an exceptional passenger experience. You’ll set the tone for professionalism on every leg and champion our Safety Management System in day-to-day decisions.

What you'll do
  • Exercise Pilot-in-Command authority and sound judgment across all phases of flight.
  • Plan and conduct flights in accordance with company SOPs and applicable regulations.
  • Lead and mentor your crew; coordinate closely with dispatch, maintenance, and client stakeholders.
  • Provide attentive, solution-focused service to passengers and customers.
  • Manage on-time performance through strong organization and time management.
  • Model Sunwest’s SMS practices, including proactive hazard identification and reporting.
  • Complete required training and checking; travel to the United States as needed for training.
Minimum flight experience
  • Total time: 3,000 hours
  • PIC time: 2,000 hours
  • Multi-engine: 1,500 hours
  • Multi-engine PIC: 1,000 hours

Preference will be given to candidates with time on type (Beechcraft 1900).

Additional requirements
  • Valid Canadian passport or resident status with necessary visas to travel within Canada, the United States, Mexico, the Caribbean, South America, and Western Europe.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain a RAIC; successful completion of a criminal background check.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to the United States for training.
  • Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Commitment to the safety accountabilities outlined in Sunwest’s Safety Management System manual.
Training

Type rating is not required—full training is provided for qualified hires. We welcome NTR applicants who meet the flight-time and licensing minimums.
